Does Kimi, like Berger in the past, lack drive and motivation? While Berger was never the fastest, some days he was a heck of a lot better than other days, but then he would slip back into normal Berger performance where racing just appeared to be a drag. Speed is only part of the equation you have to want to race every F1 meeting! Pete
Not even close Pete. Felipe is trying to follow MS, Kimi is his Eddie Irvine. Kimi Irvine has a good ring to it.
... yep exactly the same thing slowed Berger down. There is a driver in NZ (who I will not name) who is very fast and won a top level series for a few years and then stopped racing due to 'lack of interest' ... amazing. I guess not all that end up in motor racing live and breathe it. Apparently this guy has started racing again, but I think he has missed too many years. I think Kimi is brave and very fast, ie. as you say has natural talent, but I don't really think he's interested. What a waste! Pete
I always felt Gerhard was underrated. He was only ever beaten by Senna, Prost and occasionally Mansell. He was also really tall for an F1 driver, anyone know how tall he is?
That's like saying Kimi was only beaten by MS and Alonso: you are either a top driver, or you are not, pure and simple. And if anyone whines and says 'Kimi needs more seat time in the unfamiliar car', I'm going to scream. He can get all the time he wants: Hamilton jumps in an F1 car and is FAST from the first race on.
Well that's what I mean. If your only beaten by the two best guys on the grid, who are considered among the best of all time, then your not doing too bad at all. Not everyone can have their name listed next to Fangio, Clark, Moss, Senna, Schumacher etc. So if we were to compare Gerhard to today's drivers, i'd place him higher then guys like Ralf and Fisi, but lower than Alonso and Hamilton. I've heard people say that because of his height, that if he were a driver in the 70's then he'd be champion. I don't know about that statement though, what do you think?
