Yep yep. Not too bad the expedition edition. Would have been better if they used the turbo, but i guess NAs are more reliable in difficult off-road conditions. Or it could have been a ducting problem since they used a snorkel for water wading.

I read somewhere that Porsche has a training school for apprentices that they put through a series of development cycles. so these appretinces are asked to form teams to conceptualize special porsche models. So you have cars like the Cayenne police vehicles, ambulance and the above mentioned trans siberia among others. Apparently this helps the trainees develop strong working relationships with the many departments, from technical to marketing as all departments are needed to put the one-offs together. Facinating.

When Milky Way and Andromeda Collide, Earth Could Find Itself Far From Home

Galactic "Brangelina" combo could knock our solar system out of the Milky Way

If Homo sapiens can stick it out on Earth for another two billion years, our descendants may witness quite a show in the night sky. Researchers estimate that the Milky Way will collide with its nearest neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy, at around that time—well before the sun collapses into a white dwarf, perhaps destroying the Earth in the process.
This close encounter of the galactic kind could easily kick our solar system to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, and there is a small chance we might even take up residence in Andromeda, according to astronomers T. J. Cox and Abraham Loeb of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass.

The pair simulated the collision by estimating the relative speed between the two galaxies and the amount of gas and dark matter in the intervening space, which exerts a drag on their motions.

Andromeda is currently 2.3 million light-years from our galaxy. Researchers know that the two neighbors are approaching each other at 120 kilometers per second, but they are far less certain of Andromeda's sideways speed. If moving fast enough to the side, it would miss us entirely.

"I think it's very likely they will come together," Loeb says. "The issue is, will it be [in] three billion years, five billion years or 10 billion years?"

Taking their cue from the latest models of the galaxies' structures, Cox and Loeb assumed a relatively small sideways motion. Based on this assumption, Andromeda would first graze the Milky Way two billion years from now, they report in a paper submitted to the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The two galactic cores would orbit each other for another three billion years before merging.

During that time, the stars making up the two spiral galaxies would slowly coalesce into a more elliptical combo galaxy, "Milkomeda" (or the Andromedy Way, if you prefer). Although most of the stars would be too sparsely spaced to bump together, one galaxy's gravity would jostle the other's stars.

The fate of the sun, which is expected to last at least until the simulated merger, would depend on where it was in its 24,000 light-year-wide orbit around the galactic core. The researchers estimate that by the time the cores had fused, the solar system would have a 50 percent chance of being swept to a wispy tail extending from Milkomeda, three times further out from galactic center than it is now.

Cox and Loeb also find a 3 percent chance of the sun being nudged into orbit around Andromeda when the two galaxies first collide. Of course, they note, different assumptions for the simulation would likely result in different outcomes.

"What's cool about this," says astronomer Gregory Laughlin of the University of California in Santa Cruz, "is they track a reasonable orbit for the sun … and sort of give a plausible range of scenarios for what the solar system might encounter. … It's fun to speculate on this stuff."

But I guess almost everyone on board would have a porker sometime in their life. I would still like a classic & our Leslie is building a nice 70's 2.7 to RS spec complete with ducktail, white & RS stripes. Mama mia!

Speaking of which I just realised the 360CS is very light; 425Bhp on a 1180kg?

Jon, it is 110kg lighter than a standard 360 @ 1290kg. All the carbon parts savings is quite similar to the Superleggera which is 100kg lighter than a standard G.

The current F430 is 1350kg and I would expect the Pista to be around 1240kg and with maybe with 515Bhp.

Missed this. They're all in the S$500K range, not sure what specs is the 997 but the R8 is getting good reviews & would be a familar cabin to my G so I'll probably choose the Vantage (never had an Aston) followed by the SL which is the only one that opens up as well (provided it's AMG).

Any of you other than RO1 drove the 997 GT3? I've only sat in one. Is it an "involving" car? Something that tickles? The gearchange, steering, chassis, sound......People are saying it's the more civilised of the RS & one that is much better in terms of value. But the RS has a wide body, single clutch plate, lighter & those colours! And Marcus has one in the showroom which he needs to move.

The GT3s are low buggers without lifter & front lip hits speed humps but all round visibility is fantastic except the roll cage back there.

Me ok, me think alot these days. Going to be 1 year older on Sat. Reflections and more reflections...

I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible.

And how it can actually ache in places that you didn’t know you had inside you.

And it doesn't matter how many new haircuts you get...

    Or gyms you join.

Or how many glasses of chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends.

You still go to bed every night going over every detail

And wonder what you did wrong or how, you could have misunderstood

And how in the hell in that brief moment you could think that you were that happy?

And sometimes you can even convince yourself that she'll see the light and show up at your door.

    And after all that...

However long "all that" may be...

You'll go somewhere new and you'll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again.

And little pieces of your soul will finally come back.

    And all that fuzzy stuff...

Those years of your life that you wasted...that will eventually begin to fade....KDK take break to think more about life. Bye for now my friend.

Based on looks alone, AM would be my first choice, followed closely by the P-car.
I am not feeling the R8's aesthetics design, looks 'alien' and side differing coor panel looks awful. Just my opinion.

Can't remember which US mag did a review on the R8, silver Gallardo & a 997C2S? They mentioned the new R8 looks so good it makes the Gallardo look old. Maybe we'll have to look @ it on the metal rather than pics but I have a feeling it'll be outdated by itself=short lifespan which worries most of us.

hi guys...sounds like everyone enjoyed your recent drive. On a side note, can I ask how does ES transport your Gs to you in Singapore? By sea or air? I was always told that HSM air freights their Fs to Sgp but now my friend tells me they are going to change to sea freight. Must take a month at least I think!

Both the Aston and P-car has nostalgic looks that has evolved over a few generations and it still looks great. I agree that one have to look at the metal in the flesh but I'd still prefer the G-car over the R8. However, the V12 Scissor-door will always take the cake.

I have driven the GT3. I love it! It is very a balanced car when you take it around corners. Its very poised at speed. Steering is direct as you would expect...just point and squirt. The car really comes alive when you put it to sports mode - the valves are open... rev it to 8000 rpm and the aural drama begins... the earth moves... angels weep.
Blip the throttle and you can sense the urgency of the exhust note. Power it in progression and suddenly time slows momentarily..Slam it and the car warps to another dimension. This is a very quick car.

Gear changes are very easy.. toe heeling is a synch...get the timing rite and you are Shumacher. Personally, I would change the fly wheel to the RS version.. faster and lighter.

The interior furnishings are well appointed...very well built, no rattle, no noise...very German.. very Lamborghini :)

No rear seat .. .perfect to throw a set of golf clubs or tennis gear in the rear. You can choose all Alcantara (Ah_ kan_ta_lah as Francis of Hup Li would say) or choose half and half like RO1.

The GT3 comes w Pirelli Corsa tires... "gripping stuff!" but be careful in the wet.

Black is nice. White? - Nicer IMO. Rumour is that the while ones go faster :)

I enjoy driving the GT3 alot... it makes you feel "one" with the road.

Roger, is that G a Superleggera? 530 seems like it. Have you got figures for the regular G? To be frank I'm not quite concerned with track tests as sometimes it depends on the condition of that car, specs & driver but most important is I'll never drive like them & I'll have little chances to drive like in such situation but it's the next best thing to sell a car, afterall we like figures!

Gracias Senoire! Woah you can be a car journalist! I can almost feel myself in the car & I like the part you said about Francis :D now when was the last time you met him?

Hmmm I must pay Marcus a visit & since he's getting married he should like a good deal.

While I was on my way home. I realized the G has been so reliable, so maintenance free & well.... so little tuning+after market kits yet it looks so good & is so fast you'd fear for your license. It's like the perfect mistress!

Jon, once again thanks for organising the drive. Pity I had to scoot off early but must pray for more Fcars to come my way!

Went to HSM this afternoon and had a real eye feast of Fcars. 2x 308GTS, 328, Testa (no 512M mods), awesome 599, usual 360s/430s and my ultimate dream, the 512BBi and the close, practical runner up, a red 355 spyder (I thought there was only a yellow one left).

Cheers guys and look forward to more meets!
