i can only imagine the repair bills one would have to look forward to when the waranty is done!

this may be like buying a used range rover where the entry price is cheap...it takes a mint however to keep it on the road!!

an engine rebuild on one of those is in the 30's from what i understand..

No WAY id buy one without a warranty.. If it came from a dealer, you could get an extended. Thats the only way ID do it.

Try and get a late build 04 or newer, and get the longest warranty possible.

I had a 2004 CTT and didn't have any issues other than recalled coil packs, the thing was a bullet and handled better than my E55!!

It did eat tires and brakes but thats it.

High mileage Cayenne's are pretty bulletproof.............the Turbo is a prodigous eater of brake pads, tires, and gas however.

Why? What I have never understood is why would anyone buy an SUV that only seats 5 people when there is a plethora of sedans out there that seat 5 have a nice size trunk are faster, handle better and certainly look better. Its one thing if you need to seat 7 or 8 and buy a Suburban or something, but a Cayenne only seats 5...so what's the point in having to live with the ugly porky thing if you only need a sedan size vehicle anyway?

What you're not understanding is why not everyone sees things your way, but it appears to be a chronic problem in your posts 'round here.

I can rattle off a few reasons from my personal perspective, owning a Grand Cherokee:

    1. I don't need to seat more than 5 people
    2. I need to tow a trailer from time to time
    3. I take my vehicle off pavement
    4. Newfoundlands don't fit well in passenger cars
    5. I like the looks of SUVs more than most sedans
    6. I have yet to see a Trail Rated sedan

My dad got my mom an '04 Cayenne S when it came out and it was unbearable. Brakes were insanely touchy-- breathe on them and almost eat the steering wheel. The fly-by-wire was terrible as well, as there was a sizeable gap of time before the car would react, and when it did, there would be whiplash in the other direction. The gas pedal was so light that it didn't support the weight of my foot, and that got really tiring after 30 mins or so. I wonder if the new ones are improved.

depreciation! I wouldn't buy one simply because of the costs involved. Extended warranty and certified pre owned would be a must imo

Because the ugly, porky thing weighs enough to qualify for a particular tax exemption when used in a particular business situation. I don't know the details since I don't own a business, but I have talked with a doctor that owned one and he explained that it was "advantageous."

That tax deduction was designed to help farmers and other industries that really need large vehicles...however, a lot of others jumped on board for the tax savings...it is now being fazed out because it encouraged people to buy gas guzzlers...

their is no tax "exemption". they allow you to accelerate the depreciation upfront instead of say over 7 yrs. either way, it is getting written off as a business expense - it is just of question of how soon and fast.
