+1... Nicest NSX I have seen! The NSX is a great car, it looks very exotic in person. The cabin, gearbox, balance, and engine are first rate. Throw in the true daily driver and 200k miles of reliability... It only lacks the engine note. I've said it before - it sounds just like my wife's Honda van. You can make it louder and turn up the base or treble, but it's the same song (no offense intended). Unfortunately, it is often compared to the car that may well have the best engine note ever (355).
The NSX are nice, but after selling mine and getting a 1991 ferrari 348, I love the Ferrari much better and I feel that I have made a good choice. Here was a pic of mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was about to go off on you for starting this whole Ferrari vrs. NSX thing again - will you never learn to keep those Jap cars off an Italian car fan site? - BUT, that picture is of a really, really nicely done car. In fact, ahem, I wouldn't be embarassed being seen in it.
+1 One of my friends had a 92' NSX, when he turned on the engine, I thought it sounded like a Honda Accord. When I started the old 348 next to the NSX, even he felt a little embarased. But they are great cars I think, for what they represent.
The NSX was the handling reference for Gordon Murray when designing the McLaren F1. Don't ignore the NSX guys, it did quite a lot for the car scene when it came out. The only reason I'm going for a 2002 (the new facelifted ones) NSX instead of a 355 Spider, is the simple fact that it's cheap (everything is relative) to run and I can put 200.000 miles on it and it will still run (if a Porsche does 150.000 miles people are sooooo impressed, if a Ferrari does 100.000 miles and still runs flawlessley people go nuts). I can't imagine taking a 355 on a several thousand miles euro-roadtrips without thinking of engine milage (O.K. if the quality is so great on 355 why do people avoid the 355 with "high milage"?). The NSX is BULLETPROOF and I love it for that. Even the professional detailers say the factory paintjob on the NSX is better than a new F430 paintjob. Everyday supercar (well, nothing super today, but 0 - 60 in 5 sec is not slow no matter what you say). I'm going to keep it until a F430 is within reach and I'm allowed to get insurance on a Ferrari (when I turn 28 years old). The F430 is a flawless car as far as I know. Btw. of course a V6 will not sound better than a V8... "it sounded like a Accord" Give me a break... A motorjournalist who has driven every single great car of our time (Jeremy Clarkson) even said; "Listen to that noise! You just want to go on forever and ever and never change the gear! More of this!". I can post that clip if you want me to. Accord.. LOL That said, it lacks the soul of a Ferrari 355, the sound and the character. But it is something special and will always be remembered as Japan's first supercar to challenge Ferrari. It's a legend. Legends don't come and go. Legends are cars people talk about 10-20 years later on the daily basis, like the McLaren F1. That's a status the 355 don't have IMHO. It will just be another "V8 mid-engine Ferrari" in 20 years. Don't get me wrong now, my second-favorite Ferrari is the 355 Spider (after F430). Don't forget people; Mr. Enzo started making and selling Ferrari's for funding racing. Mr. Soichiro Honda had a love affair with the track too. All car companies today are in like a big friggin' orgie with Aston Martin being owned by Ford and Audi switches in Bentley's and Lamborghini's. Ferrari and Honda both were started by legendary men with the same passion for speed and racing like us enthusiasts - and these companies are independent today and giving thrills people have lusted since the very first petrol car rolled on the face of the earth. The new Mr. Honda/Ferrari of today is Mr. Horacio Pagani. A one-man army bringing dreams like the Pagani Zonda F to life - a car that crushes everything that stands in its way. Keyword; Enthusiasm. When making a car so affordable as the Honda Civic Type R, as an example, Mr. Mikio Suzuki - the "Large Project Leader" said; Cut this car in half and you'll see our blood!". Laugh all you want about a Civic Type RRRRRRRRRR but not everybody can afford a Ferrari or a Ferrari ownership and cars like these brings thrills and almost as much joy to a lot more people. So what a lot of kids are getting Civic's and adding lambo-doors and big stereos and plastic kits on them? Stop focusing on that. Just like you don't like to focus on the newly rich guys who's never been interested in cars or motorsports but has heard about Ferrari's all their lifes... "I think I'ma get one of those.. What's that name again? Oh yeah, a Ferrrrrarrrrriiii". It's about the enthusiasm people. Not about the badge. Two companies, same philosophy, same passion. I'm not a diehard Ferrari fan. I'm not a die hard Honda fan. I just love cars made to put big smiles on my face. I just share the passion. Peace.
That is why you HAVE to put on Taitec race headers and exhaust with aluminum flywheel. BUT it will never sound as good as a 355 with Tubi. I have driven several 355s and love and respect them. I would have one but I have too many cars as it is, my taste in cars is too broad. Seems like I am always changing oil!
I am not the one that started this thread but I appreciate your nice comments. I promise, no more pics though. Simple fact is that the NSX is no 355 nor vice versa. Both are great cars. Just like the 355, I do think that NSXs will become a classic of some sort. I also have an old 1984 308GTB QV which is much more fun to drive than the NSX or a 355 on twisting roads. To me it is the last Ferrari that has that "old school" feel which may be good or bad, depends on who you ask. Both the NSX and the 355 were huge steps up for each company.
Don't forget people; Mr. Enzo started making and selling Ferrari's for funding racing. Mr. Soichiro Honda had a love affair with the track too. Peace.
When Honda gets a point in F1 this year, then we will talk about racing history and pedigree. As we stand, even Super Aguri beats Honda, what a shame. Oh, by the way with the engine sound, I am telling you what I heard. Having said all that, I think you should get the Acura, sounds like its the car for you
insearchofdrivingnirvana: Good post. You make some good points. There's plenty of ribbing the NSX on this site, but I think there's a bunch of respect for it too. ...and btw, I love the sound of them, stock and otherwise.
I have an NSX and a 355. Both are great cars and deserve all the respect due. Anyone who bags either car doesn't really know much about cars or is simply lost to his own ideology. Both were groundbreaking to each company and to the sports car market. Both are stunning to look at and drive. Danny
I saw a guy at a recent meet who owned an NSX, but was wearing a Ferrari polo and hat, which just about summed up most NSX owners' intent. Another NSX owner said that he tracked with a local Ferrari group and that he kept up with an Enzo, with only bolt-on mods. If you want a Ferrari, save up/work hard/make more money and get one. I thought about getting an NSX at one point, but then I caught on that an NSX is really just a poor man's Ferrari and/or a cop out. They say it's the most reliable exotic and all, but it doesn't offer any exotic aside from the body style/MR layout, IMO. The interior is still cheap Honda stuff, the clutch is weak like my friend's Honda Passport, and the engine/exhaust only sounds good with certain aftermarket pieces. I would rather save up the extra money to get the real thing, than to have a Honda reliable/Honda quality(cheap) car. This is not to offend any of the members on here who have an NSX, and I will admit that some of the NSXs that I've seen with body kits are very impressive.
Dude, where have you been??? Are you still interested in getting one of these 'high maintenence' machines???
When Honda gets a point in F1 this year, then we will talk about racing history and pedigree. As we stand, even Super Aguri beats Honda, what a shame. Oh, by the way with the engine sound, I am telling you what I heard. Having said all that, I think you should get the Acura, sounds like its the car for you
Careful with the F1 analogy we have seen this one spiral the other way, from 1987-1992 the situation was very much reversed. Both companies have great racing history and passion for the sport, both have created some awesome cars as well as mediocre cars. I had an NSX before my 355 and it was a fantastic car, saw lots of track miles and provided alot of smiles for me over 7 years. I love my 355, but I do not think I owuld have traded the NSX for a 3x8 model before the 355.
Hasn't this topic been visited 84 times this year alone??? MODS---Kill this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Widebody350, 355 is a great exotic car(who doesn't like it?), but Please don't look down on NSX/NSX owner. Its a very nice car. I just sold my 92 NSX since the newborn arrived. I love my NSX so much, the styling and the interior is superior compare to other 90's car. I don't think the interior is still cheap Honda stuff and the quality is 'cheap', its really depends on your taste. The sound is also pretty nice to me(not too loud). And the NSX is already the 'real thing' for me, cuz i'm not pretending a Ferrari owner. I've sat in my friends 360 for lots of times and i'm not very impressed. Its a good car, but not my style. Oh, and do you think most of the NSX owners are Ferrari owner wannabe and couldn't afford Ferrari? Please don't. After getting the SUV for kid car and settle down with my Baby, i will spend some money on new toys around $250k next year. I hope you will have your dream Ferrari soon, please work hard/save up/make more money. No offense to anyone. Peace.
If you only consider F1 to be a racing, then I feel a little sorry for you. Ferrari dominates F1, cred's for that... But racing is so much more. At least Honda tries hard in F1 thou' they have been lousy the last races..
