76 would be a fibreglass car. Very rare and very expensive.

Glass doesnt have to be pristine cond. Not even excellent, just fair /good. They are out there. That much I learned.......the hard way.

    BUT, thank heaven for steel!!!!!

    Thanks, Martin.

You are right I have to correct that in 76 they switched over to steel. So there are steel cars in 76.

I sold a glass car a few years back that was not excellent but was a great base to get it restored and it was one of 100 original US glass deliveries with the wet sump 308 engines.

They used aircraft paint on the car becasue of the cracking the glass cars usually have and that worked excellent. If you ever do that use aircraft paint. Super expensive but well worth it in the long run.

I wish that I had never sold that car. Got it really cheap as well. From a Ferrari dealer of all places.

Wow, neat story. I can understand why you feel you shoulda/woulda/coulda kept that glass car. Thanks for the tip on aircraft paint. I have a feeling I am gonna need that (as well as more) advice on painting ext of a glass 308.

PS: Yes, they made steel in 76 as well, but I have heard/learned that 77 glass models were made as well!! Believe it? They linda like intermixed the assembly line, I understand. It was not a clear/absolute transition.

    Regards

If my memory serves me right (and it rarely does..., that is why I have over 100 Ferrari books to look it up) the glass cars were only made till 76 and in 76 they were transitioned to steel. In 77 they were all steel.
I will look into it a little more. Now I am curious.

Martin, both steel and glass car production overlapped and we have 76 steel cars as well as 77 glass cars. Look at this car on Ebay.

Its funny how people love glass cars but the one I purchased for a very reasonable sum sat unsold on Ferrariads for some time. In any case, I always new I wanted a Ferrari but I probably would have waited longer and for a newer car if it wasnt for the excellent value my car represented. The bottom line, I am very happy with my glass car!

It's a "North American" car all right as it has solid amber turn lenses and the larger bumper........

Two of them on the market out there, then.

Martin, can you find a red/black 308QV over there for StickChic????

Have not come accress a lot of 308s lately.
Will keep my eyes open though.

The turn leses and other items do not necessarily mean it is a US car. Could have been that DOT required that from this importer to change them.
I think I have a list somewhere of what VINs glass cars are US and Euro.

Martin....your inventory is up! That 456 GT looks nice. The thought of an Fcar V12 and 400+HP is sure tempting. Also, a lot easier to live with than a glass car. Its seems like a lot of car for the money considering that 550s are a $100k+. I know the two seaters have that aura but you cant beat the price. I also cant imagine the 456s price will go down much further. It will never be as cheap as the 412 due to its performance and the fact that it is far superior. What are your thoughts?

    I agree.
In fact I have been driving the car a few hundred miles already and love it. Gaby is driving it right now since we sold the Mini on Thursday. She loves it as well. Lots of power and very roomy and comfortable.
The bottom line price of a car is determined by its value in parts. Those cars are worth $50K+ in parts so yes, I agree with that assessment.
The GT with the 6-speed has nothing to lose as far as the automatic transmission is concerned. Its a lot more car to drive around town than a 308, that is for sure. I'd take the 308 in trade :)

I think there is consensus that the 456 is better looking than the 412. Another bonus for the 456's price stabilizing....
