Some of you have been following my adventures in garage construction and outfitting over the past couple of years. It's pretty much done now, but I just added a recent addition that I think really makes the place...

Yes, it's Pole Position II, circa 1983. Brings back fond memories, and actually for a game that is 24 years old, surprisingly challenging and fun!!

I saw it on Craigslist and I had to have it.

Please note that directly to the left is the college dorm beer fridge. Now we never have to leave the garage!!

This is the rest of the garage (taken before pole position arrived!)

In the second picture, on the wall, you will notice a Mondial steering wheel.

Which is going on the Pole Position game!

WOW! That's a fabulous garage! I'm in awe! Not only do I want a lift, I want high ceilings so I can use the lift! Sadly I have neither. I'm coming to live with you!!! :p

Hey Birdman, to complete your garage, all you need now is the original OutRun arcade game :D

beautiful garage! Mine is pretty big like that with high ceilings too but the walls were never finished like yours and my lighting sucks with just some fluorescents. That lift is certainly appealing. Wish I had one! :)

Yes and no problem. You need to join our merry band...the Ferrari Fix It Club. We meet regularly and work on various members cars. We either meet at my house or Verell's house because we have the lifts. We did the timing belts on Wiseman's car a couple weeks ago.

The garage is nice, very nice....clearly you have only just built it, because MY wife would fill the sucker up so fast...well never mind, i love her dearly, but...

My real envy is that you have Ferrari buds close, my closest compatriot is like 150 miles away, then 275. there are a few drawbacks to living behind the redwood curtain.

I have never talked to a local ferrari guy, only wierd chicks that ask is that a mustang....Makes me drink more than an occasional beer.
My best to you with your fine garage.

    Birdman,

Your garage would be a dream in Southern California. The addition of Pole Position was a great investment. I was born in Fall River, so I visit once in a while. Next time I go to MA, I am going to look you up. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Gentlemen,
Thanks for the kudos. I built the garage myself, starting in 2004. After I framed the whole thing and got the garage portion (downstairs) finished, my wife had me start on a sunroom on the back of the house. Now that it is finished, I am working above the garage on the second floor, building a new master bed/bath. Someday I'll be done with that and I'm planning on building a 2 car detached garage as additional car storage. What can I say, I like building. (I can say that, since I'm not a builder and it's a hobby for me!)

Chris, my wife is already filling *my* garage with kids toys and gardening junk, in spite of the fact that I built a large garden shed in 2002 where all that crap belongs. I'm desperately trying to maintain control over the "man cave"--my last refuge in the house!!

I did an Fchat thread while I was building the garage, but the pics were lost in the infamous server crash a few years ago. Here is a link to the architect's website where he put a few pics up of the process:

    http://www.browndogdesigns.com/mainhtml/custom_design/additions/bird/const/bird_update.htm

As for the lift, I have to tell you, I can hardly imagine not having it, and honestly, if you are a car guy, it's a no brainer. They just aren't that expensive. Think of it as the most useful tool you own. With the move towards larger vehicles, all the service shops are upgrading to bigger lifts and there are TONS of smaller lifts on the used market. I got mine from a lift dealer near me for $2,500 installed. And it's a Mohawk, premium U.S. made lift that is "only" rated to 6,000 pounds. Read my lift article:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/velostrada/issues/200510/Bird_Lifts.htm

Eric, no secret handshake, but the new guy has to bring the donuts! ;) I'll put you on the e-mail list and you can be in the loop. Next tech session is at Verell's house in June. We are lucky to have such a great bunch of enthusiasts around here. Seriously, we have some major brain power on tap at the FFIC! One of our "members" is David Casthelano, a Ferrari-trained tech who has worked on every famous vintage and racing Ferrari you can think of. Then we have Verell of course too! But as per club rules, you will need a nickname that ends in "man". I'm the Birdman, we have a Frenchman, Pizzaman, Wiseman and of course Verell is "The man".

I like the fact that it's 18" off the ground as all potentially arcing circuits should be in the presence of gasoline vapors.
Or potential presence. Or at least it looks like 18".

Hmmmm......yeah, gasoline vapors....that is the reason it's up off the floor. It had nothing to do with the effort required to lean over to get a beer....;)
