Note the flag mirrors on #1038. - Which is most likely original.

With this being the case, and so many later 79 production cars (late 79 production VIN #'s) having early pod-type Sebring mirrors (based on old original period pics) installed by the factory, it makes scientifically putting it all together quite frustrating, to say the least.

    I like your car !!!!!

Thanks for the clearing up the fact.
So the myth of WW LP500S is actually a WW LP480S :D
Is it the same bore x stroke of the factory LP5000 4.8?
It is believed that the Wolf car engine produces 447ps @ 7.900 rpm ... dunno whether this is just a story also.

    LP 400
    Bore x Stroke : 82 x 62mm
    3929 cc
    375 hp at 8000 rpm

    LP 5000S
    Bore x Stroke : 85.5 x 69mm
    4754cc

    Surprisingly simple math says
    (4754/3929) x 375hp = 453hp @ 8000rpm or about 447hp @7900rpm
So I guess the claim of 447hp @ 7900 rpm is just a simple math assumption.

    Joe:
Did you dyno your black LP 400 yet? It should make 315-320 wheel hp @ 8000 rpm for the claim of 375hp@8000rpm to be true.
    Lamborghini claims 375hp/3.929 = 95.4 hp/liter ..... pretty impressive for a standard, carbed, 2 valves engine in 1977.
I have a feeling back in the 70's most Italian car manufacturer had some "magical" dyno :D

I think you have more statistics of Wolf's 4.8 litre engine than either Wolf or Dallara themselves. LOL. No idea of the output and from talking to Walter I got the impression that he doesnt clutter his mind with detail. If I were to ask him how much hp the engine put out he would likely reply: "plenty", and how did it perform?: "very fast" would be the likely answer.

But all is not lost. one of the 4.8 litre engines might need a rebuild soon....

I know that my black 1975 LP400 will not give standard numbers due to the cam profile and bigger main jets. No I did not dyno it yet, and Im not sure there is any point, although it is interesting. Yes the figures published by Automobili Lamborghini's PR department in the 70s were indeed "optimistic" ;-)

Apparently the LP5000s engine is probably the fabled "4.8" we've heard about.

From my experience it's a bored and stroked 4 liter with a different piston shape.

The QV engine is stroked a bit more to 75mm for 5167cc and of course the 4-valve heads.

This is certainly not the first time a manufacturer "rounded-up" the displacement numbers for marketing.

Emilio, will you be driving that beauty of yours to the big International Lamborghini Owners Club event in Switzerland next month? Are you in the Italian Club who are co-organizing?
I will be participating with 'Blondie The Wife' in a red 1986 QV carburetted car (we are coming in from the Zurich area by road). Either way keep me posted. The ILOC guys are very dynamic, but they have warned us: "watch out for the speeding Germans!". Valentino is coming with something from the factory, I dont know what yet.
Let me know if you are coming, Id love to meet up.

no, i'd like but i can't (and with my 190 cm. pressed under the "dallara low roof" for hundreds of Kms i would be probably dead in Swiss in any way though :( )
i am sorry Joe, it would be really a pleasure to meet you,
if you ever plan to come to factory, please let me know so we can arrange something

i am not in the italian club

P.S. a friend of mine -Eric- will come with his wonderfull blue thaiti 5000s (with freshly rebuilt engine and QS exhaust :) )
say hi to him by me

LOL. I totally agree that the Countach was made for breif fast bursts. My drive from Lucerne (with 5 other cars) to St Moritz I am told will take 3 hours - so, I will try and make it in 2 ;-). Thats about all I can take in a Countach. The Miura I could drive all day. Factory visit again will be early next year, I will keep you posted.
