NSX... D grade one star car.. Porsche and BMW yes on value and collectibility. The 512m is up 37%this year. xj 220 is a b grade 2 star and has had no change. Most likely because its the biggest POS ever made. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I dissagree but i'm not going to start an arguement on why it is or isn't because it'll never end but i do believe that the price of these cars will eventually start creeping back up
I wont argue with you on the price going up. Im sure the car will at least keep up with Inflation say 3 t 5 percent per year. However I have seen a few of these in the hands of some dealers in Socal and they never made it more than 3 miles with out a break down. So bad in fact the dealers stoped doing test drives on these cars...
Cars that appreciate are usually 1) Very limited very desirable cars 2) The "best" of a specific kind of car that people wanted 3) A specific year that happened to catch people's eye more than other years I say -McLaren F1 (obvious) -Ferrari F40, F50, Enzo (so few produced) -Buick GNX (few made, sleepers, lots of allure when people figured out how fast they were) -Pontiac Turbo T/A -92 Viper (maybe, not so sure) -96 blue/white Viper (first year of the GTS - tons of folks want it) -98 GTS/R Viper (last couple years of forged pistons, big cam Vipers) -02 Final Edition Viper GTS (this will be 'the' GTS to have in years to come, after the 96 BW Viper) -Mustang Cobra R (a real supercar that didn't get that much love) -Supra Turbo (they are already going up!) -BMW Z8 (was really a rare car, high power too) -Ford GT (Yep they made a lot, but over the years increasing incomes will keep demand high) No modern Corvette will ever be worth anything unless there is a major HP restriction like in the 70's. And then, whatever was the latest high-po Vette will be the one that will go up.
Too many E36 M3's are getting riced out by 20 year olds now, But the part about the E30 I do agree about.
But you miss the point. those "Riced" out E36 M3's will decrease the number of unmolested cars. As the pool thins the price for quality, and originality goes up. Just look at the Supra. There are so few good original cars out there. An example again is the Cuda. For years they were raced, crashed, blowed up, tuned for the drag strip, and most rotting bad quality cars that so many were destroyed the pool diminished to the point that when they got HOT with the generation that coveted them look a the $$$ x number of cars
Low mile Unmolested 2003-04 cobras exspecially Comp orange and mystic chrome cars. 1998 WS6 Convertables exspecially the M6 there were so few produced. 1993, 1995, and the 2000 Mustang Cobra R's.
NSX; D grade one star ? I'd like to pick up a copy of the 2007 SCM ( I assume thats the Sports Car Market ). It will provide a smile down the road like the pic of Truman holding up the newpaper with " Dewey Wins" as the headline.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the R32 Golf. Only 2000 brought to the US, and turbo conversions seem to be popular because the drivetrain is so stout. Around here, I can count on one hand how many different cars I have seen on the road (ever).
I've seen 3 R32's in the past 3 days. While i'll admit thats a bit strange and they normally aren't as common i wouldn't hold my breath on it. I think the original GTI's will go up BIG TIME
Great list. Though Callaway Corvettes, a factory option (B2K), might hold their value okay over time, too.
Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6, 3000 made only 1 year (2005). Only car to come out of the Chrysler/Benz merger jointly. SLK32 AMG engine and platform, 330hp. Now that the companies have split up, you will see in 5-10 years demand going up as it is a unknown right now except enthusiasts have discovered them--I know I have one.
You could be right, I like the car, but I heard yesterday from a friend that just bought one new from the dealer for $11,000 below sticker. They don't seem to have much of a following.
I like the 220. A mechanic at Norwoods, mentioned some facts about upkeep. In no particular order: No shop manual You cannot buy parts from a Jaguar dealer A head gasket is over $1,000 dollars The oil for the gearbox, is no longer produced A spare used gearbox was located for 25K The entire car has to be disassembled, to replace the fuel cells/bags every few years Their is only one authorized distributor, to obtain parts. Don't blink, when a shop hands you an invoice for 16K. (This is what I was told) Their is an owner on this site, who has had good luck with these cars !! ___________ SCM gave the Boxer a grade B, as far as future price appreciation ? - The line starts behind, all the Daytona autos.
VW's or just about any other imported cars hot rodded econocar will never go up in value unless scrap metal becomes scarce. This includes the current crop, R32, EVO, STI, SRT4 etc etc Enjoy them but they will never be worthy of collector status The rx7 and supra are in different class.
Original GTO's were very hard cars to sell when they were new. That's why they never sold a lot of them. People forget that now but these high dollar muscle cars never sold well back in the day.
Oh yes I saw that. I wasn't disagreeing. The ONLY one of this crop I MIGHT even remotely consider a collector is the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR SE. This car is pretty rare and the VERY LAST of the venerable 4G63 powered cars. he afformentioned Integra type R will always be special to some folks. Not to mention it has sexy subtleties Like another guy said what are high school guys lusting after? Seems the trend is back to American Muscle more and more.
There are tons of different versions of the evos and STI's in varying states of tune in England/Europe but over here we get the regular bone stock car. I can see some of the Euro models being sought after but over here in the US i don't see the regular EVO/STi etc going anywhere Has anybody mentioned the RS200 yet? What about the Ford Escort Cosworth? There are a few in the US. There is a red one near where i go to college and i've seen it a few times. I love 'em and i can see decent condition cars fetching quite a bit of money in the future
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the 88.5 Fiero GT. Already increasing in price. Probably never high dollar, but a fun car for the $. Gene
