MONACO: When Was Ferrari's Last Win?

Most of the time it was due to mechanical failure vs an uncompetitive car (remember the one year where Schumacher's exhaust melted the suspension?). We know, of course, what happened last year when the car was probably good enough to pull it off. That said, I hadn't realized it was that long ago either. I would have guessed 2004.

 

I have to say I was surprised as well to see that statistic. And DC has won it twice, so Ron's speculation on that regard isn't that far off. I still think it'll be one of the two top teams to clinch it, but who knows. It is Monaco after all.

Wow. I knew it had been a while, but not that long. Remember, Kimi won in Monaco in 2005 following a great qualifying performance, so he has a good chance of taking it this time. Kimi is due a win, anyway.

 

I figured MS would have won it in 2004, guess we're due a win. If only we hadn't had Michael's idiotic judgement last year...

 

I think things have changed to the point where you simply MUST have a top car to win a race these days. Remember Fisi's win with Jordan and how freaked out they were - they knew that under 99.9999% of circumstances they had no way to win. It's even worse than that nowadays. Unless there is some huge pile-up or massive attrition during the race, I would say it's a pretty sure bet that the podium will be made up of the top two teams, maybe the top three if someone has a DNF or mechanical issue. Monaco is tough to pass at, and since we have this 4-way race right now for the WDC, none of them wants to take the risks required to score a 1st vs. a 2nd if it means possibly ending up with zero points. Look how far back Kimi was set after his DNF. I'd bet...

1) The podium is made up of any three of Hamilton, Alonso, Massa, Kimi, Heidfeld
2) Coulthard doesn't score any points
3) There will be no substantial differences in the results than other races - nobody who was a bottom-half driver will make it into the top 5.


I'm gonna say quali will be

1) Kimi
2) Alonso
3) Hamilton
4) Massa
5) ??? (could be one of 3 or 4 drivers)

Race will be the same result - of course the unexpected may happen and jumble it up, but ain't no level of unexpectedness that's gonna put David on the podium!

 

I agree with most of what you said, but I still think DC has a better chance at this track than at many others: The car doesn't count as much (particularly if it rains) and the fact that he has won it twice shows that for whatever reason he is doing fine at Monaco. It could be that other drivers are more intimidated by the armco or that he feels particularly lucky or the rythm of the track suits him, whatever.

Simply look at the history of Monaco and you see that there are many repeat winners and those people often were greats and WDCs. Of course there is the occasional Panis, but that's just the far end of the Gauss' curve.

DC to podium? Probably not. DC in the points, very likely. But honestly: I really don't care. Either way.

My understanding is that Hamilton has never lost at Monaco...albeit not in F1...yet.

 

yup. in F3000 cars and GP2 cars.

 

Just for the record, I've never lost at Monaco either, so I am predicting myself to win this weekend.
