When I opened the driver's door panel to repair the window channels, I found this floating inside. Couldn't mate it to anything easily. Anyone have any idea what it might be. I don't think the door panel had ever been opened since 1974.

no expert, but first off it looked like a window/door lever channel guide. ever notice your handle on window wigling? or such

did a search and found closest proximity...assuming you are talking about the dino?

not certain, as i am not at home, but it looks like the plastic door light holder.

    Hey AusDino,
    Good show! That's correct.

    wspeer,
You, too, are correct on the ID. My car has P/W & has the same door light configuration. From the body parts catalog, it looks like the light is the same with manual windows.

    Mike O.,
We're talking about the little red light on the aft end of the door below the latch. Is it firmly in place? If so, the piece you have found is an extra. Keep it, as you do all used Dino parts, for future use or bartering. If the light is loose, or is held in by some other means (e.g. glue, tape, wire, paper clip), get back with us & we'll walk you through the process of installing the round nylon clip.

    Cheers,
    Coop

Seems like the consensus is clip for the door light. I'll go check it now, and see if it's missing.
The interior of the door was like new. There was a little fine grey dust in there, and one loose brand sticker from some part, and this piece, but amazing little else. The door panel was backed up by a grey-ish vinyl material sealed to the door frame with some sort of contact cement.

I'll post as soon as I see what's up. I don't feel like disassembling the door tonight, but if I can see from outside, I'll say so!

I saw this ad from Rutlands...

    http://item.express.ebay.com/New-Carello-Door-Edge-Light-Ferrari-246-308-328-Etc_W0QQitemZ200076833032QQihZ010QQcmdZExpressItem

Similar pic to above. That has to be it! Tomorrow morning, when it's cooler in the garage (it was 91 in New York today) I'll pop open the door panel, and see if this is it or if someone jury rigged a repair. From outside, the light is nice and tight, so this could be one of those mysteries -- if there is one on the light, where in hell did the extra come from??? Could these things have monosexual reproductive capabilities? What would the implications be for the Dino parts market if that's true?? Maybe this is a result of a buildup of greenhouse gasses in my garage (or head)...

You shouldn't have to disassemble the door to confirm this, just open the door and see if the rear facing light on door width is secure.
