Just from the TV shots the new "red" looks fantastic, with some metallic in it. I wonder if it'll make it to production eventually like the scuderia red.

I think is just for Monaco.

The color is just for Monaco, which is why they call it "Monaco red."

Is there confirmation on this? A Source?

I understood that it was a permanent livery change.

It's fantastic. Kind of like a deep chrome red.

    Per Grandprix.com on 23 May . . . .

    NEW FERRARI LIVERY
Ferrari has introduced a new colour scheme at Monaco. The cars will henceforth be seen in a darker red than has been the case in recent years, when the red was changed to get closer to the colour scheme used by Marlboro.

Looks like the color is here to stay then, I for one think it's a great improvement over the Marlboro red color.

This is the Marlboro red color! The prior color of the F1 cars was closest to the production color of Rosso Scuderia. Made it easier to see on tv.

I thought they changed the color of the car to the orange red color to be closer to the Marlboro color, the older F1 Ferrari's were the deeper red like the new color now.

that's what i thought as well. ferrari changed to the 'orange' red to closely mimic malborough and look brighter on tv, but now they've changed back with this monaco red (to a deeper red)...

I stand corrected. Some one else said on here, so I took their word for it.

Alright I'm not crazy then. I haven't been following F1 for very long, so are there any more people that can chime in on the change of the color when they went to the orange red?

According to a Ferrari spokesperson at Monaco, the new color will stay for the balance of the season and is the final step in a "rebranding of the Scuderia". Starting with the new logo, and then new graphics, the new paint was used after making sure that it did not technically affect the car such as in its weight.

"We have not changed to suit any sponsor. It is just part of a larger overall process."

I hope Tamiya and Testors have the formula.

    It's actually a chrome/red mixture , not metallic.

It looked amazing and was almost like a pearl effect as the sun shined off it. I prefer it as it's not so orange in it and would look great on a GTB street car. It was my first time in Monaco and truly amazing to see the cars on such a tight track. I watched from the water between the tunnel end and Tabac. the speed at which they attacked that corner was awesome. I had some great memories and hope to make the trip annually.

Adressed the Factory about colour name and colour code and they replied: not yet named, not yet encoded, no plans to make this an "official" colour for customer cars. On the other hand the said something like, if you want to have it on your car adress your nearest dealer who probably might help you after the 2007-season.

By the way, Rosso Monaco sounds as good as Azzurro Monaco did in the mid-nineties. Not often, that locations are used twice (Grigio and Verde Silverstone might be the other one).

Thanks! The darker red does look much better IMO... and also the Marlboro looks much better than the "barcode" thing... but they don't have much choice in that.
