360 CS Warranty?

Hi just wanted to ask all the 360 CS owners if its a good idea to extend the warranty of the car. How many have done it? Thanks

 

I extended mine last November. So far it's saved me about $1,000. Just got to find another $2,500 in repairs to break even.

 

Like any insurance policy, damn if you do and damn if you don't.
What's the current mileage and how many miles do you expect to clock in the next year and or during your ownership?

The sum cost of a major (mandatory for the extended warranty) and the warranty would have been $5-6K for one year's coverage. I seldom buy extended warranties on anything.....if they are hugely profitable for the sellers who possess the actuarial data, what does that say about the buyers? That said, there are mechanical bits and pieces which are unique to the Challenge Stradale and one wonders how much Ferrari will charge for that special little titanium spring...........hmmmmm.

 

LOL! except a CS isn't a $50 dvd player that can be binned for a new one if it goes pop . Peace of mind is what it's all about, plus i've never had a claim turned down yet . Wishbones were just replaced following the usual bump and grind suspension noise probs.

 

Just forget that and sell me your car... go buy another new one and let us bottom feeders have that "old used up junk".

Seriously, I want to buy your car if you ever sell it. It is exactly the way I would try to find one...well except for the headliner...

 

Search other posts as there are lots of opinions and some interesting advice on this.

I'm not for the simple reason that Ferrari now strongly prohibits ANY modifications to the car with an extended warranty. In addition, you must do ALL the required servicing whether you feel you want to or not. I want to put hyperflow cats on mine, not allowed under extended warranty, etc.

Nor does the economics make sense to me. I have 9.5K on my car now, and up here in Canada would have to fork out $6K Canadian for the power cube warranty, plus another $6K for the 30K mile servicing. It's $6K as they "always" do the tensioners as well. That's $12KCdn = $11K USA for what, some dribble peace of mind for one lousy year when I might put 3K miles on my car?

i asked someone i know inside ferrari for his thoughts on the extended warranty for a stradale. he told me that the 360s and the stradale have proven to be so reliable that he personally would not advise buying the extended warranty.

btw, both of my stradales have had the infamous suspension creaks/clacks almost from the time i bought them. i've had both cars in for service approximately 3 or 4 times over the past couple fo years while both cars were under warranty. all ferrari ever did was remove the bolts, grease them and reinstall them. this only solved the problem for a few weeks then the same noises would come back. they fianlyl replaced the shock bolts with F430 teflon-coated shock bolts, and this helped for a few months, but now the same noises are coming back. but now my cars are no longer under warranty. if ferrari didn't eplace my wishbones for the past couple of years i have no reason to believe that they will suddenly replace them under an extended warranty.

I had the same experience. My 430 teflon coated shock pins are also rattling/squeaking again. Has anybody found a fix??

 

i don't think so. but tonyh said that he had the same problem and his dealer in london replaced the wishbones (under warranty or extended warranty??) and i think he said this solved the problem. but we'll have to ask tonyh to keep us informed of his situation over the coming months because it's possible (i guess) that the suspension noises could return again. if it turns out that replacing the wishbones actually solves the problem then i am going to contact ferrari and ask them if they will replace the wishbones in my stradales under warranty...even though my warranty has just expired it would seem fair that they should do the work since i reported the problem years earlier (in fact many of us have reported the same problem for years)!

The 430 shock pins on my CS are still doing the trick after 4K miles but it's disconcerting to hear they haven't produced a lasting solution for others. It would be interesting to see if the noises on CSs with 430 shock pins (which now arn't working) would go away if new 430 shock pins were again installed. If so, this might suggest the wishbones are not the real culprit. What's the cost of installing new/different wishbones anyway. The 430 shock bolts, installed, are less than $400-500.

the wishbones were done in April. The car was in for annual and i asked dealer to investigate usual suspension groans /rattles. This was 3rd complaint from me about it so i guess they swapped out parts to shut me up
I'll let you know how long they last !

 

In my opinion its better to put the money in the pocket and spend it when something breaks.

Non factory warranty providers often try to weazel their way out of paying.

rear wishbones in april, now front ball joints in august, wrrnty expires in nov - gotta get everything done quick ..... ARRGGHH !

 

i was actually going over what i've had done via wrrnty and it's clear it pays for itself;

rear wishbones, front ball joints, realign gearbox casing, realign abs sensor , re prog throttle take up, replace front headlight unit[£2k alone] plus vat [17.5%] + labour

 

'The 360 has proved so reliable'... that you shouldnt bother with a warranty....

I would personally buy a warranty if offered the choice. The 360 came with lots of problems which have gradually been ironed out over time (to as recently as 2006!). Dont think that the F430 is any better either, lots of issues there too including manifolds cracking, more fires, wiring looms chamfering, etc.

o Early revision car Headlamp units acting like magnifying glasses causes fires...
o Later revision car Headlamp units misting up/getting dirt & insects inside the lenses
o Early revision cars with Engine bay covers without rain channels, misted up engine cover glass
o Early revision cars Anti-lock braking ECU software problems - stopped working under heavy braking!
o EBD Faliure failing to illuminate the Warning light - recall issued
o Door may open inadvertedly as striker retaining plates produced using steel of an incorrect specs - recall issued
o Front compartment may open inadvertedly as striker retaining plates produced using steel of an incorrect specs - recall issued
o Fuel tank may incur damage in a side impact collision - recall issued
o Starter gear ring concern - fixing bolts holding engine starter ring gear to clutch fractures causing damage to clutch housing/surrounding components - recall issued
o Airbag ECU - fixing bolts too short for long term reliability - recall issued
o Fuel Vapor Leak - defect with roll-over fuel shut off valves. components fracture allowing fuel vapour to be released - recall issued
o Hydraulic steering delivery pipe could cause slight leak - recall issued
o Possibility that the roll-over fuel shut off float valves may fracture - recall issed
o Engine bay fires...
o Knocking balljoints and creaking bolts (very common)
o Variator timing failure - resulting in catastrophic engine failure (7, count them, different revisions of the said parts) - many engines went or will die this way!!!
o Failed bearings - resulting in catastrophic engine failure
o Snapped cambelts - resulting in catastrophic engine failure
o Gearbox manual shifter (plastic part premature wear) making selecting difficult
o Gearbox f1 shifter - original software ate clutches for breakfast
o Early car clutch assembly - recall campaign
o Early car battery - recall campaign
o Lots of reported issues with dealer fitted theft Tracking systems draining batteries
o Power Steering fluid can leak ontop red engine covers when moving steering wheel with engine turned off
o CS engine bay carbon fiber going all milky
o CS brake discs wearing premature rates - requiring hugely expensive replacements
o CS ecu software cold startup issues - reflashing required
o CS titanium bolts shearing off - recall campaign
o CS power steering - recall campaign
o CS CF airbox cover screws loosening themselves on track - airfilters falling out onto hot exhaust and catching fire!

ETC... ETC... ETC...

I'd feel much safer with Power cube warranties.. These cars are built in relatively small amounts (20k units on the 360 worldwide?) so there are probably still a lots of bugs in there!!! I should know, my engine variator went yesterday taking the engine with it

I am not saying the 360 is an unreliable car per say but its certainly had its fair share of revisions and improvements/recalls over its lifetime, including the 360CS. Dont forget a recall in 1 country might not make it to another country due to applicable laws (even if the problems are serious enough to monster your engine).

 

Most of the items posted above were recall or service campaigns that will be covered even without a warranty. Many others should be done as part of the regular maintenence, again without warranty.

I asked the same question about the warranty on my car (do a search). I was quoted about $7k for a 1 year warranty. To me, it seemed like a lot of money for such a short warranty period.

 

Especially since you have to have the full 30K to qualify, so its 7 + at least 6K. Waste of money IMO.

 

I did not extend for any of my cars, I think that the cost outwaits the benefits,,,,

 

IMHO, you insure against costs that you cannot manage. You do not insure to make money. The insurer makes money. Every insurance product brings in more money than it sends out, or is repriced up. The premiums pay all the claims, plus the administrative overhead, the employee time to process claims, designing, printing and distributing the forms, keeping records, lawyers to review the terms, plus a profit.

You may get lucky and have a belt failure save you $60,000 of self paid repairs, but like a casino patron, the odds are any individual will pay more for the insurance than get in claims.

 

I talked to a guy who owns an F-repair shop here recently and he said he was working on something to repair the F1 system on a CS to the tune of roughly $20G's for the part, plus labor. He advised going for it. Still, not sure I would but hearing scary situations like that makes you think. I hate owning these cars out of warranty. Almost makes you want to dump the car before the warranty ends.
