Mclaren under investigation by FIA (spoiler if you haven't seen Monaco result)

I can see how this would reduce the chance of the McLs knocking each other out...don't see how it otherwise would effect the other teams since the closest competitior was about a minute back at the finish.

Would be interested in SFs opinion of this. Think SF has ever done this? Give me a break.

At first blush I believe this kind of Mickey Mouse BS hurts the sport. Perhaps if I were Lewis I would be p!ssed which can only lead to problems at McL and be good for SF.

 

Partly to do with the British tabloid newspapers going Hamilton mad and desparate to see him win.

Personally looked to me like Alonso had Hamilton covered for the whole race.

Doubt SF will say to much as they have used team orders since the inception of F1 legal or not!.

Any teams would've done the same in the situation. It's a team-play, not team order as far as I'm concerned.

 

You are right, this is just politics. Alonso wanted this race, and he got it on his own.

 

More than politics, German newspapers report it as well and analyze the pitstops and team strategy. It looks as if Hamilton was deliberately held back by the team.

There is no doubt that the MCs won and would have won the race, the question is did they break the rules by telling the drivers to hold station. This means do not pass, regardless if you car is faster, you are faster, etc...

We have seen strange punishments in the past when a Ferrari was involved. Many on fchat thought it was because Bernie wanted the championship fight closer so one team did not run away with it. Here is an opportunity to see if it true. Maybe Bernie can exert some pressure, on the investigation and bunch up the top four drivers again. I really do not want to see Ferrari win that way, but I do want Bernie to "equally screw" all teams

 

I say take away all the McLaren's points from this race and relegate them to the back of the grid for the next one, fair is fair

 

Another proof that FIA is ready to give penalty to every team which lead too much the championship...

 

I think you are right, especially since Lewis did kiss the armcos a couple of times and I don't think anyone could have beaten Alonso.

The British media can be almost as bad as the Italian.

 

I suspect this is early "sabre rattling" -- to warn McLaren that if Ferrari doesn't give them a run for the championship, then they'll have to let their own drivers compete with each other.

Nobody would watch if the results are known before it starts.

And F1 is all about "the show".

I dont think anything will happen just now, but McLaren has been served a fair warning.

My prediction is that McLaren will keep their team orders until Alonso has the title. At that point it will be anybody's game. And 08 Hamilton will probably be allowed to go for it. That'd be a good time for Alonso to switch to Ferrari.

 

Are some of you really sure that Alonso ran away with it? Right from the very start of the race it was so obvious that this race was going to be Alonsos'. I was fully expecting a drag race between Lewis and Alonso to the first bend but instead Lewis stuck his car to the right in front of Massa with no intention of going for first what so ever. Thats when I knew something other than a race was up between the Macs. The other thing is that Massa may have had forknowledge of the Macs possibly loosing points or positions so he backed off and made sure he made no mistakes and locked up 3rd and now has a longshot chance for the win. Ferrari is not afraid of the Macs as they knew very well that the Macs were faster in a slower heavy downforce track.
Everything will now return to normal.

 

I don't think McLaren did anything wrong. IIRC Hamilton had a few more laps extra of fuel and if he had really been that much faster than FA he would have passed him in the pits, or at least been right on his tail. I don't think it's anything any other team wouldn't have done, and don't think they should face any punishment. If Lewis keeps getting held back and it becomes more blatant then I think something should happen.

 

Maybe Lewis is one of the FEW that have paid attention to the team boss when they say 'this race is not won on the first corner of the first lap - do not take each other out'.

 

Well it was won on the first corner wasnt it? If Lewis was going to win that race he had to be ahead in the first corner. We have seen it over and over in Monaco, he who takes the poll usualy wins the race unless it rains. This race was gifted to Alonso by Ron, as simple as that. He has been whinning for a month and now Ron listened.

 

Uh, Yes. He drove a perfect race, made no mistakes and lapped everyone up to Massa. I think that is pretty much the definition of "ran away with it".

 

All BS. FA was the faster car, he won, case closed. There is a difference between telling your drivers not to pass each other, on a track that has little room to pass anyway, as to not risk the one two, and blatant team orders such as let your teammate through. LH will have to win on his own, not have one gifted to him. I'm begining to agree with all the people that are getting annoyed with this Hamilton-mainia business. Bernie knows it will be huge for the sport if Hamilton wins soon, but at who's cost?

 

Worse. Italian media is upset for a couple of days and that's it. British tablodis sink their teeth into a topic like a bullterrier gone mad until their victim is completely exhausted and/or dead.

 

This over policing is what ruins F1, not the driving style of the teams. If MB held Hamilton back I think Hamilton would be pissed.

 

I hate to say it, but if McLaren is found to have pre-determined who would win the race between it's two drivers, then they broke the rules. And if they broke the rules, they need to be punished.

They've been using team orders all year long, from having Hamilton hold up Kimi in Bahrain so Alonso could run off, to this pre-determined situation in Monaco.

Team orders have been around in F1 since the inception, and I personally don't agree with the "sporting code" preventing the use of them but Kharma is a ***** Mr. Dennis and what comes around goes around.

It's very, very early in the season for this discussion to be taking place. Even if McLaren is cleared of this, they're now in the spotlight.

I can't say I'm upset about this development because Ron Dennis may in fact be Lucifer.
