A head to head (multiple drives) 430-Z-06 run at Road Atlanta resulted in the Z-06 beating the 430 by 4 seconds a lap and the (actually pretty poor) Z-06 brakes proved better than the 430's.

I don't post this to put down our 430's or elevate the Z-06. This was a very clean and bonifide test which I am sure some will never believe (except engineers who can add weight and horsepower ratio's).

I also know the Z-06 is noisy, overall inferior, lacks the panache of the Ferrari, and clearly we can put a motor on a shopping cart and go fast. Just thought a couple of you might be interested. Best

    Bob,

I concur about the abilities of the Z06. I drove Financialman's (Dan) Z06 and was very impressed with every aspect of the car. However can you confirm whether the your 430 has carbon ceramics and 6 speed? I drove a 430 6 speed manual and with carbon ceramics and I have to say that not only did it feel faster than the F1 I drove right after, the brakes also has even better feel than my Stradale. (of course my butt dyno could be broken)

I know several guys who track their C6 Z06s and the brakes are a known weak spot. You either baby them or replace them with Alcon or similar race package (this is confirmed on the Vette boards also). I have standard brakes on my 430, with street/track pads (Ferodo DS2500) and they are completely fade free and very effective. Bottom line, I have a problem with your conclusions, but I guess that's what makes the world go 'round. And most of the 4 sec/lap difference I'm betting could be traced to the driver...

F430's are awesome cars, but lets be realistic here. The Z06 is faster in every apect, period. And when you compare prices, the Z06 is one heck of a car.

Brakes were steel... No doubt the Carbon would be a different story or at least they should be. At least 2 professional drivers (one of which a chassis development engineer) each driving the cars multiple times. Looking for validity and reliability. Testing chassis, power, brakes, to improve product development. Best

Saw some other posts --- I agree Z-06 brakes are not good and would have thought 430 would do better. However, these were really "stepped on" ---- no trail braking - probably not likely when tracking as contrasted to wheel to wheel racing. racing. I believe the 430 was an F-1. Best

The Z06 is piece of s h i t e - having owned one, and having forced GM to buy
the POS back, I believe I've earned the right to say that anyone who places
a Z06 in the same sentence with any (F car, P car, L car, or any other exotic)
    needs electroshock therapy.

Sorry Bob - I couldn't care if the Z06 went 0-100-0 in 5 seconds whilst playing
the star spangled banner. It's an ill-mannered, shabbily-assembled example of
    why GM is going under.

The car is a POS supported by the same dealer network that services cobalts
and cavaliers - and thats the level of "service" you get. Truly a car for the
set who whacks off to numbers in car magazines.

It does interest me to see which cars do well on which courses such as the 'ring, etc. I also like the way Top Gear keeps a running tally on lap times from their test track (Go, Stig!).

I'm not interested when people use such information to denigrate vehicles which they do not own or may never drive. Nevermind the fact that only the tiniest fraction of car owners ever go drive on the track anyway (and it seems that quite a few of them are on this site).

I think the Z06 is a very capable car and I am happy for guys who have one even though I do not wish to own one.

However, I can hardly wait to get my F430.

    Thanks for the info!

NOT that there's anything wrong with that.......;) ;) ;)

I'm surprised to hear the Z06 is such a bucket. I've had my H2 for about 5 years now and it's been awesome. My wife's YukonXL has also been equally great...I'd rather like to think GM has it fairly together as automobile manufacturers go, but then again, you did make them buy it back, so a few lemon's must have fallen from the apple tree, eh?

Nobody will argue the Z06 is dollar-per-value a strong package on the whole, but whenever I see one I still think to myself "Nice...but not even close", and I'm sure the Vette owner is trying to convince himself of a few things. Eh, who cares.

F1 goodies to change gears via a flick of the paddle probably adds 80kg over the stick shift , that's a lot of extra weight to pull around .

To me the question is which car is more fun to drive in the environment in which I will actually drive the car. My F430 has not arrived yet, but testers such as Car and Driver have driven both and like the F430 much better.

I had no idea Ferrari had a economical car out now? Doesn't the Corvette have cylinder cut at cruising speeds for better fuel economy? I believe the Vettes get somewhere around 25 mpgs. My friend has an M3, a Vette and a Merc ML, and of these the Vette is the most economical.

On balance this thread has been very civilized and hopefully of interest. I do empathize with Indshirk who apparently had a terrible experience. I have about 8,000 miles on my Z-06 with excessive tire wear. As for the 430, I love it, but could use another 50+hp at the rear wheels. Incidentally, the team drove a Porsche Cayman, not as fast, but reportedly they liked it the most overall.I don't own a Cayman. Best
