Joe you never fail to impress me with with your knowledge of not just the cars, but the people around the cars. Portmans is a name i've not heard in a long time! Is there anyone in the Lambo world you dont know? By the way what were you doing over here in 87?

In 1987, I was trying to get Del Hopkins to work on my Countach....I was living in London at the time. I was young, single...and owned a Countach. Thats what I was doing there. LOL.

Yes, I can personally testify that a Countach can in fact accomodate 2 young ladies besides the driver (fact), although the kind lady nearest the transmission was required to operate the gear lever with the hapless driver (me) shouting out "second"..."third"... can you picture all that?

PS - I though Lambo Power was this bastion of car-enthusiast-only commentary focusing strictly on the cars with no-nonsense moderation...? LOL. There goes the neighborhood.

I must say Glen and I are pretty lazy (or far too busy with more important things...) when it comes to updating the Registry. But we are getting there. One thing that would help the confusion surrounding the last 1978 car (1121034) is that it is NOT production number 10 and the registry needs to be corrected & updated. We will get to it (one day). Simply by virtue of its chassis number (34) it is assured to be production number 17, therefore 17 cars were made in 1978, with Walter Wolf's prototype car built in 1977.

You can assume that we are not infalible and when the Registry posting was made 4 years ago (gasp, has it been that long....?), when we were young and foolish :)

The Series One is a very neat car, but for all the fuss made over them, the LP400 will always be far more valuable in terms of purity of design and iconic importance in Lamborghini's history. Thats why people pay $400k for a really good one, rather than $175k for a S1.

As far as the 'last car built in 1978' history is concerned: I owned that last 1978 car (1121034), and I did not pay a penny more to buy it because of its 'last' disposition. I also did not ask David to pay a penny more for its 'last' provenance when I sold it to him. I get the impression that David doesnt really care about the 'last' issue - like most people. When I owned it, its 'last' disposition was cool to note, but I didnt dwell on it nor did I increase my insurance coverage. It is definately historically noteworthy, but its worth zero in dollars and cents.

Now Ive got to go and have my dinner, which might include the last bottle of Suvignon Blanc produced in 1998, and then smoke the last Cohiba rolled in 2003. LOL.

Any pics ? I really liked that car.

I heard he likes the car.

I believe, he never got the previous records on the car. AFAIK, I have a boatload of service records on that car.

BTW - For anybody who cares, I spoke to Steve Dypvik, the first owner and importer of Countachs 1120300 (LP400), 1121014, 1121016, & 1121036 (all LP400S S1). A couple things have come up as a result of our discussion.
    1. The factory were still making LP400 in early 1978 (plus Urracos, Jaramas and Espadas).
    2. His Countach S Series 1 cars were manufactured as follows:
    1121014 - 1978.
    1121016 - 1978.
    11211036 - 1979.
This matter is quite clear, and the Registry will always have them listed as such.

    Ralph,
I'm leaving town for a few days but I'll try to post pics when I get back..
I've never done it before, but if Emilio can do it.....lol
I think he keeps the car inside his business building... I'm friends with his
mechanic and the car looks great (except for a small spot were water collects on the door hinges (pax side). The guy loves it...he also has a F-Boxer along with several other "unique" cars. Ken

Since I own and specialize in these cars, Ive been maintaining records the past 20 years.

Recently I hit 'paydirt' with detailed documentation on all the 4-litre cars. My own private registry and the ILR will benefit directly as a result. Some cars have been the subject of much discussion and contention and I feel duty-bound to share what I have on one particular chassis such as it will clarify that particular car's status.

According to Automobili Lamborghini SpA Countach 1121036 was assigned a built date of precisely May the 11th 1979. The factory "assigned" this car via their concessionaire S.E.A Automobili di Roma as was typical practice for cars being supplied via Dan Morgan to Steve Dypvik. The factory records note the car as the 174th Countach built (dont ask me, Im just parroting the official records). The factory records note the car as "Rosso/Champagne" then there is a later note with "inside: Senape" (in Italian), which reflects the car's current interior trim.

As many of you know, Im trying to put together a good book on the Miura, and one on the 4-litre Countachs. This information as reported above will NOT be published prior, on any forum, or on any website. The proper venue will be in the book. I have done some special due-dilligence in this instance and I am sure the above reporting is correct and factual as stated by Automobili Lamborghini SpA.

A freind in Michigan stated that he was having a hard time convincing his insurance company that his Periscopa was worth more than $100k.

As the values of these cars increase it is important to insure the cars properly. I bet the owner of the white SV stolen in Europe wishes he had it covered for full market value.

I use Hagerty and needless to say they have no problem insuring one for real market values. Anyone with an insurance issue similar let me know.

Is it a virtue? It seems some amongst us have some truly historical cars but would rather keep that information private.....thats OK.

Walter Wolf's prototype is a blatant re-post for which I sincerely apologize :)
