    I have a suggestion:
Ferrarichat.com has a problem when searching for 'stuff'/issues/topics/traces
As a DBA it frustrates the H**l out of me trying to find data and then, sometimes being shot down by others for not being exhausting enough in my search.

I know this should be directed squarely at the site mgrs. but I wanted to sort the items in debate before doing so.

    SUGGESTION:
title should list generic search nouns/verbs, and
might include a part number. Can you include a pull down of titles or something. [I would do a search on this suggestion, but that's exactly part of the problem....]
IF NOTHING else, there should be a series of check boxes indexing or categorizing the thread: talking Tech Q&A, and model issues only, could care less about P&R etc.

know this sounds difficult, but on-line books can give the part or area in question like eurospares.co.uk

I've noticed a posting on hot start issues--348/Mondial-T etc.: how many times has THAT come up...lots. [just to name one]
    or
Noise in my 456 rear, or window issues in 456
    etc. etc.

how many times must it be re-done/reinvent the wheel...can't tell how many times we have probably lost valuable data

remember the typical posts "repost", "do a search", "I want a link...can you remember for me", etc.

look at what happened to rifledriver on fchat, he's taken a leave of absence either becuase he is on vacation, or exhausted in answering the same, redundant questions: "how do I check my oil..." geesch.
this site could be awsome [hate that word] in fixing what fchat lacks, a good directory or compartmentalization of data for finding the wealth of knowledge posted.

Using eurospares one could use their common index like
    Mechanical
    wheels
    engine
    - electrical
    - ignition
    -etc
    coachwork
    - seats
    - console
    - etc.

    etc. etc.

or, does everyone like spending lots of time searching?
    FWIW

I think the problem is that the vBulletin board system can't handle search queries which include words of less than 4 letters. With Ferrari models having those beautiful three-letter-names like 328 or 550, it is nearly impossible to find the information you need for your specific car.

    thought about that too.

guess somewhere in this request is a means to have tags associated with whatever is posted, when the thread is opened. the poster would have to select engine/coach, + cosmetic/repairs+?, +[some tag here etc.]

might not show up in header/title, but would be easily associated with the thread postings: all of them that reply.

later someone could add to the tags to help out: just a thought

So, all our threads titled "WTF!!" aren't helpful?

Your suggestion is obviously a good one, but realistically I think the mods have their hands full with the bikini thread... er, that is, policing the content and banning trolls and spammers.

FWIW, I try to use intelligible thread titles. But the bottom line is that a threaded discussion isn't a wiki, so it's like using the wrong tool to create the searchable knowledge base you're lusting after.

The 'tags' idea is great - would require some custom programming, though, I suspect. Maybe if Rob's bored...

Your comments make sense, unfortunately getting people to title their threads better or use tags is probably a 20% proposition at best (the majority will be too lazy or clueless to comply).

Upgrading the search engine seems like the best return on effort.
