I understand that when you own an expensive car you should only park it in garages or on the main road with plenty of "decent" people around. In melbourne (Australia) I see quiet a few Ferraris and Lambos parked on Chapel St (expensive area and popular hang out for people).

Whats interesting to me is this, usually its pretty impossible to find a parking spot along Chapel St because it is very busy. So I wonder how these Ferraris can find a spot? Surely they wont be driving up N down the st or sit there waiting for a spot? IMO they have some arrangement with some restaurants or osmething to keep the spots occupied for them and when they pull up their Ferrari they move their car and let the Ferrari park there?

I remember the most odd parking spot I saw a Ferrari 360 Modena at was in Sunshine (pretty average Melbourne suburb with relatively high crime rate and cheap housing) supermarket car park at night. This red 360 was in the parking lot, I parked near it with my Skyline and thought "wow this guy is nuts." I then went into the supermarket, got my snacks with my girl and went back to the car. On the way back we saw this Asian guy (if you are on here mate "What up :))" open up the 360 and climb inside. I complimented the car and commented how it was wierd seeing a Fezza in a parking lot and he said something like "Oh I just needed some grog quickly." He was a decent guy, fairly humble, also complimented my car too.

    Any stories or ideas?

Whenever parking one of my Ferraris in public, I always sought out a red painted curb. To most this coloring signifies 'No Parking', but to me it represented a dent-free zone--the GTO had no front or rear bumpers and every other Ferrari I've owned was just as vulnerable in spite of having rather perfunctory bumpers. After parking the car to my satisfaction, I would slip a hastily written note under the windshield wiper and go about my business.

In over ten years of applying this method and using the same scrap of paper the entire time, I never got a parking ticket or a dent. Once, in front of Dunhill's in Beverly Hills, I saw a traffic warden stop and prepare to cite my car, but upon reading the note, he put away his citation book and absented himself.

What did the note say? “Out of gas. Gone for gas”

    IMO......

Being blatantly carefull, showy (taking up 2 spots), or seemingly over concerend/etc... about your parking actually brings additional attention to your car.

The "way out in the lot" trick increases visability. Parking up front next to the soccer moms' mini van is truly dangerous.

A wise owner picks a spot not so obvious as to draw attention, but not so crowded as to risk damage.

    It's a tough call grasshopper.........

The Good News: You get to park in really big places up close.

The Bad News: I had to have open heart surgery to get the handicapped pass. Like being run over by a train.

It's probably an unwritten rule that exotics get first dibs out front. Of course you'd have to tip someone to ensure that it happens again and that they keep an eye on your car.

That's great, it some how seems more believable with a vintage F-car.

i fully agree, i too spend hours driving around looking for that perfect spot until i discoverd valet parking at crown casino, no more worries because the cars are always on camera, so now if i want to go out i just go there. problem solved.

p.s. the ferraris you have seen on chapel st are owned by the owner of the reasturant near frost bites.

Another trick that you can use, is try to find another expensive car and park next to it, or between 2 nice cars, they want to protect their cars as much as you want to protect yours.

Yes I always park my car only next to expensive cars.

Another favourite spot of mine is right at the edge of the marked spots that way I only have a car on one side parked next to me.

I remember going round and round the parking lots looking for just the right spot with my dad. When I got older I felt he exposed himself too much when he parked in desolate areas of parking lots and sure enough, he got keyed one time doing it. I tend to search out the spots too but tend to look for spot at the end with only one cars passenger's side door next to me, I figure my odds are pretty good. So far, I've never been dinged. Even the wife's pretty good and careful with the parking.

    it's weird....

the most common feeling is being so much happy when you're driving and enjoying some country roads... then... the horrible thing... you have to get out the car! and.... where do I park it?!?!? you start feeling nervous and observed by a bunch of people looking at you like "come on, get out mate.... I WANNA HAVE A CLOSER LOOK!!!!" !

    gee that's terrifying....

It's not about being maniac...but I think, if you really love your ferrari, it teaches you a better education on streets... you start making a inner map of all the treets bad and good where to go... good parking lots and safer places. It tends to mak eyou drive more concentrated and carefully! Actually it's absurd, but it's easier to be dumb with a non-ferrari car on streets!

You know what?!?! we should write down kinda guide for each country for "Ferrari Green Lights Spots" like hotels, restaurants and places wher eyou can go safely..... that would be a smart idea!

    love

That sounds like a good idea! I think its very weird how Exotics always find the best spots, and i have often wondered how? But you always see them parked in them spots that are always full! how, just how! lol

I never park near the "trolly house" in the supermarket car parks, just incase one goes a stray. lol

Does anyone valet park their Fcar with F1? Do they know how to drive it? Never tried it, just asking. I would assume if you asked them they might say yes but really not know.

I just got my 360F1 in March. Last night was the first time I took my wife out to dinner in it. As suggested elsewhere on this forum, I called ahead and spoke to a manager. In a very "gentle" way I told him I was coming to dinner there that night, and that I wanted to drive a new Ferrari that I recently purchased. I said I was still a little "protective" of it, and would he consider making a special accommodation for me to park it. He said he'd be glad to - he'll keep the first valet spot open for me. I said "hopefully it won't be a problem if I just park it myself" and he responded "of course not." When I got there they had placed a cone in that spot and the valet moved it and wave me right in. Brilliant! I had a chance to thank the manager during dinner for being so gracious. It was a total pleasure. As was the 15 mile detour that we took on the way home so we could go for a spin!

It's like docking a boat. Keep a lot of 10's and 20's on you and pass them out. Normally I park my own car at the restaurant and give a 20 on the way in and make it clear that if everything is cool when I come out 20 more. So far no problems.

at any classy place, specially hotels, they let me park my lowly 328 right out front in the drive next to the valets. more expensive cars have to go down in the garage. pretty much never fails.
