I have a nice Countach LP500S (five litre, two-valve) coming in about a week and it will be around $100k US give or take. Info on the car not before next week Tuesday when I put my sticky fingers all over it and take it for a drive...

Any chance you know where I can see Clarkson discussing the LP400?

I already have almost every Lamborghini review that Top Gear and Fifth Gear have done. I'm missing the Diablo reviews Top Gear did in the '90s and Tiff Needell's Fifth Gear review of the Gallardo coupe.

    I've got:

    Richard Hammond - Miura P400 and P400SV
James May - Urraco (Part of £10K Italians Challenge)
    Jeremy Clarkson - LP400S Countach
    James May - LP400S Countach
    Jeremy Clarkson - Gallardo
    Jeremy Clarkson - Gallardo Spider
Tiff Needell (Fifth Gear) - Gallardo Spider
Jason Plato (Fifth Gear) - Gallardo SE
    Jeremy Clarkson - Murcielago
Tiff Needell (Fifth Gear) - Murcielago
    Richard Hammond - Murcielago Roadster
Shane 'Shakey' Byrne (Fifth Gear) - Murcielago LP640
    Jeremy Clarkson - Murcielago LP640

Clarkson is the familiar figure in the top image discussing the car to rave reviews and the site I got it off only had the caption: "I want one" which no doubt followed a typical Clarkson rant against the Countach. LOL. Bottom line, he still wants one. I asume he is behind the wheel in the other shots but maybe not....

Turns out that there were 5 cars in S guise with the Periscopa roof.

Well, actually there were 4 'prototypes' and just one production car.

The prototypes are distinguishable by their 'rounded' wheel arches and the one production car has the 'squared' arches of production cars. All these cars were supplied with the massive-buttressed Wolf-style 'moody' wing (except Spazzapan's car which had the small buttress). Some of the prototypes were of questionable taste and quite frankly looked as if they had been hit by an 'ugly-stick'. Gandini had not yet re-designed the wheel-arches (spats) and intergrated bumper-spoiler so the prototypes' spats have the tacked-on 'Muletta' (test-mule) look about them. These cars were not pretentious poseurs and their aggressive stance belied the fact that they were simply built to fry the countryside at 200mph (well, maybe 180mph. LOL).

    The prototypes

    1120148 - Wolf, Rosso
    1120188 - Spazzapan, Rosso
    1120202 - Wolf, Blu
    1120222 - Silveira, Blu

    The production car

    1121030 - Leimer, Rosso

Nope. Just 4 prototypes because the 5th so-called prototype is actually the car that was built into the 1st production LP400S. Dont forget too that the Spazzapan car is the same one on the cover of CAR magazine, not another car...

Sorry, I can only find one production LP400S with a Periscopa roof. If you have more than one such car, post the chassis numbers so we can check 'em out :)

Im sure you wont mind me posting this here Greg, in response to your query about your beloved 1121116:

    Countach 208 (208th Countach built)
    Telaio 1121116 (Chassis number 1121116)
    Esterno Argento (External paint silver)
    Interno Nero (Interior leather black)
Consegna 11.12.79 (Completion date December the 11th 1979)
Concess/clienti immatricolaz. Achilli Motors di Milano (Concessionaire-dealer/client Achilii Motors of Milan)

No other information. Note the European way of designating dates with the day before the month!

Now tell me this, did the factory give you as much information?? LOL. Youre welcome and the pleasure is all mine.

Joe, the factory gave all but the completion date, they only said it was a 1979. 1121116 and I are both smiling with your posting, now I have a birth date.

    Thanks for help,

    Greg

BTW I've got to say I really enjoy this thread and all that its been doing to smooth out questions we all have, Thumbs up!
