Hi Guys, This is gonna sound like a strange request but i am looking for a complete Engine and Trans for a Dino 246. Could anyone perhaps help me or alternatively point me in the right direction. Thanks
Depending on what you are putting it in and what your desired results are, you could use the motor out of a Fiat Dino; I have seen several of those on ebay.
i am a single guy, and i dont have a problem with car parts in the house, but a unsupported engine on the hardwood floor is a new one to me!
You would need a motor out of a 2.4 Fiat Dino and there would be a little machining to do. The distributor is different also.
If you sand out the scratches on the floor, re-stain and poly with leftover supplies from when the floors were installed, would that still be considered "original" or would points be deducted??
- is the carburation the same? I know they are similar - are the heads allow or ?? - wheel base is diff. on both: would that be a minor issue. assuming you are going to drop it into an existing F-Dino? where you have just the body or bad engine? have a burned out body of a Dino 206 here in Santa Rosa been trying to get a guy to part with, but he believes he can honestly rebuild it: I just want to hang it from the ceiling...art after a nice paint job.
No ! there is nothing to do, its the exact same motor there would be no machining to do. And its the same distributor as well. Problem is that the 2.4 FIAT Dino is so rare and so expensive that I doubt it would be financially feasable to get a car and strip it for its motor...now the 2.0 Dino Coupe could be done (been there, done that).
Yes, same carbs. Not sure of the question but Yes, same heads Not sure where the wheelbase would come in, the FIAT is front engine rear wheel drive so there is nothing of the wheelbase that would make it into a real Dino. Identical motor, but very different bell housing and gearbox.
I believe Dennis McCann told me there is a stud boss or some other minor thing that interferes with the intermediate cover mounting up when you use a Fiat Dino block. Whatever it was it was a minor thing that had to be done.
Those talking about Fiats may be right but what does he want? A Ferrari Dino with integral transmission/differential or a Fiat Dino with inline transmission and no differential? Lots of minor differences between the various combinations. Settle that before you worry too much about the scratches on the floor. As an aside; I had a tenant who rebuilt his Harley in the living room. My living room... he was just renting it. Never go near such a person. John
thanks for the answers, BTW, it was alloy...need to check posts. Understood the heads were diff. for Fiat vs Ferrari's version.
The house. Gawd almighty, I sure hope you aren't renting that place because a landlord would be really PO'd. ;-) Mark
