In Canada, MSRP is 450,000 USD + tax.

So for example, in Alberta with 6% GST and no provincial tax the cost would be:

    450,000 USD x 1.10 conversion (roughly) + 6% GST = 524,700 CAD all in.

Although people have been stating that Mercedes is offering steep discounts from the dealership for purchase of a new vehicle, I've never been offered one by a dealership with more than a 25,000 discount.

Used, I've seen 05s with higher kilometers (5,000 - 7,000 kms) being offered in the 385,000 CAD range, + tax of course.

Those depreciate as hard as the SLR.

Sigh. These days unless you're into a Patek or Enzo, there's just no mercy for the buyer.

I bet the SLR at the auction comes with a $500k USD "reserve". It's there to pull a crowd who like the idea of an SLR but can really just afford a tired Rolex needing work.

I saw the exact same ad here in the Calgary Herald. Seems a little fishy, but I'm not an expert on this subject, so whatever.

No sir, I got one at a very young age and it humbled me like nothing else could've at the time. Really put things in perspective for me, and was one of the first things which made me realize how blessed I am.

I had some good seat time in an SL55 this weekend and as I thought...I was blown away. At 496 horses why wouldnt I? I know there are far more powerful cars out there but this has to be the second most powerful i've personally driven next to the 2001 Diablo.

I sold an E55 last week which I thought was a perfect grocery getter with 470 BHP! Benz now has an E65 which is insane!!!

But my reason for this post is.... where on earth is this horsepower heading? I see these tiny yuppy-like ladies and soccer moms driving these things around and it's scary LOL :D

Think the government will step in one day to govern the high horsepower on cars here?

    Thoughts?

Good point Vasco....can you imagine a soccer mom bringing her 2 young children to school (even in a baby seat) with a 500 hp Benz? It seems kind of strange but so far I have never heard of any mommy super-sedans crashing and burning at high speed. I guess they drive them slow and steady like a minivan, even though its a Bentley or Benz with RWD and supercharged.

Its also comparable with the SUV phenomenon; who needs a Range Rover Supercharged 400hp with adjustable ride height in downtown TO? Nobody, unless they have a cottage up in Muskoka or Bobcaygeon where they might use the 4WD in the winter. Everything else is just image, and the security and satisfaction of knowing that you have the power and performance under the hood.

I have neighbours on my street with a SL55, CLK55 and another neighbour with a XKR Jag and both women drive them like a Buick.

The power is there if you want to use it, but since we have alot of the men in blue and speed bumps in the suburbs, no one really can use all of it. But like the old saying goes, "if you build it they will buy it."

There was a similar situation with Sports Bikes a few years ago.
IIRC they limited the top speed to 190mph, but HP is always increasing year after year.

When will it stop? Its like asking when the stock market will stop. Drivers/Investors will always demand a growth year after year, its the nature of the business.

Too bad Mercedes/AMG wont be making the Supercharged V8 engine for the E class any more. The naturally aspirated V8 in the E63 AMG is a sweet engine, but you don't get that low down smoke-the-tires-off-the-line torque like you do in the Supercharged V8 in the E55. The M5 Touring, now that is a grocery getter. The horsepower increase wont stop. They can always design a traction control system that will keep your ass on the road. Now if they could just design a system that would ensure people used their turn signals and never cut you off...

Brim - have you read the thread title? or even one page of this thread? Its the Canadian Off Topic Thread. 90% of it is non Ferrari BS. Sure it is a huge file, from a an unknown website but is that really a reason to hop on everyone's back that comes around here? If you think the link is strange then dont click on it. If you want to talk about the NSX I am sure there is a NSX vs 355 thread out there some where.

Ummm.... no worries dude. Originally it was a seperate thread that was started by omeys_berlina posting that link regarding the turbo NSX. Brim then commented on that and it being off topic.

Rightfully so, I merged it here to keep things clean. :D

Thanks for the update on the TOS. Did it dawn on you that it was a separate thread that was merged? Probably not, due to your limited thinking.

Regarding hopping on "everyone's back," I don't recall that being the case. In your situation however, I will take 10 seconds out of my life to comment.

You are the same kid that couldn't afford 20 dollars to attend an event. You badmouth people like Zahir on Beyond.ca, and think you are unaccountable. I would love for you to speak your mind in person, to either Zahir or myself.

Your posts are borderline moronic. Frequently, you make statements of the ilk that you will own an exotic. I'd buy that Carrera GT! I'd buy that Enzo! I'd buy that LP640! Uh huh. The only thing you are going to buy is next month's public transit pass.

You need to get comfortable with asking people if they'd like fries with their meals, because that's the reality you are heading for. It's unfortunate at the tender age of what, 15 or 16, you have already made so many enemies in the exotic community that you will never be privvy to events such as Sheldon frequently is.

Sorry to crash your reality, but this is life and you're defacating where you live. If this is your passion, you certainly are going about it the wrong way.

So as you sit there at your little desk in your little room, go ahead and think about how you haven't even subscribed to the website, and have not contributed anything to the community. Then go ahead and type your incredibly sardonic and witty rejoinder, and pile it on top of your 4000+ posts.

    Good stuff, buddy.
