Wow, that's a gorgeous Countach! Anyone have a ballpark estimate of what it would cost in terms of service and maintanence to own something like this for a couple of years?

Most cars do.. If I keep a car more than 2 years it's unusual.
The Gallardo is over 3 years now.

Hey my wife prefers I change my cars often as opposed to
    changing my women....works for me.

In my car world, you are an under-achiever. If I keep mine for more than 3 months.....it's UNUSUAL.

Bought my new 88,1/2 in Feb. 89. Sold it in Feb 92 with 4 flat-bed receipts, 3 minor fires and about 3000 miles. Biggest POC I ever owned. Clutch went after 750 miles (assembly problem). Dealer not equipped to change it. Had C.Zampolli change it and fought for a whole year for Lambo to reimburse me.

Quite unfortunate. What dealer couldn't fix a clutch?

I don't mean to come off disrespectlful Joe and I think you are a great attiribute to the Lamborghini community, but you really come off as an ass when anyone has anything bad to say or a bad expieriance with the bull. they are not all as perfect as they look.

They are far from perfect. But for years we have been fed a diet of complaints about the cars without sharing any of their redeeming qualities. It sort of become popular to bash Lamborghinis and as Ive personally owned so many of them (21 at last count) I happen to have enough experience with them to know that the sob stories are just not representative of the marque as a whole. The whining gets old.
I can come on here and share horror story after horror story with you about Ferraris, Maseratis, Cobras etc but the truth is that they are all complicated cars and require careful handling.

One tech who is very experinced and works on both Ferraris and Lamborghinis says to me: "Its not that these are bad cars but often its that they have bad owners" (meaning that the owners dont operate & maintain them correctly). I happen to agree. I have broken cylinder liners and busted pistons on my desk to prove they all break, but dont take it so personally when we have fun with those that suggest that their Lamborghini was the "Biggest POC" :) Hardly a balanced and fair statement....

Are you referring to 289/427 cobras? There is nothing simpler than a pushrod, 2v, single carb V8.

As far as the ownership problems, Italian cars have been temperamental since day one. At least until quality control became important - eg ferrari producing 6k+ cars per year and audi taking the reigns at lamborghini. Owners who don't drive their cars or neglect them are one thing. However, brand new cars shouldn't have the faults that countach, jalpa, testarossa, 348, and 355 owners have suffered through.

I used to joke that every countach out there has 13,000 miles on it.

I guess I gotta change that...

Every countach out there has 14,000 miles on it.

    ;^D

    Cheers,

    Fred
