In essence yes, you do buy it for the name. But you are also buying it for the top notch performance you get when you purchase them. I doubt youare going to find anyone on here that says, i bought my car for the name. Everyone here is an enthusiast and bough the car for what it really is. Also, buying a Ferrari isnt a car, it is a lifestyle.

There's a reason the name means something.

u cant critize me for asking a simple question. as much as u think people dont there is some people out there that buy the car for the name and maybe they admit it and maybe they dont, you cant accuse me for asking.

i relize the name means something. it means alot, but this is something that ive been wondering and wanted to get some opinions to help me come to a conclusion on what the Ferrari community thinks about these "acusations" if u wanna call them that.

I'm preety sure there are people in this beautiful world of our that bought cars just for their name. But as for me name is only one of many many reasons why I bought my car, for example:
    The performance
    styling
    reputation
    history
and the feeling that you get while driving an Fcar, it is priceless.

Okay, there are 2 types of people who own Ferrari's. People who have passion and love the car (everyone on here). And then the people who by it as a item of status, but really don't have passion (like many celebrities).

Here's a novel idea. I bought mine for me. I usually drive it very early in the morning when few will see it. I don't really care if anyone knows I have it. Wait. My wife cares because she knows it's paid for.

As the sun is just coming up and I come off the ramp at full throttle, I have loosed the surly bonds of earth and..............................

Agreed, there are those that buy a status symbol and nothing more. However, I like to think they are a small minority. Most of the owners I know have grease under their fingernails, and get a gleam in their eye when they tell you about that absolutely perfect road they found...

People on this board did not buy for the name. If they had, they wouldn't have cared enough to seek out a chat message board that revolved around Ferrari ownership and the passion for F1 racing both preset and past.

I would say the majority who buy high end cars are buying them as a status symbol.

They are also the people who arent on FChat

everyone buys everything partly for the name and what it represents to them and others. that's why there is advertising. thats why ferrari brands it's name in a certain way.

you synthisized all I wanted to say in this line...

When you're so lucky to get a Ferrari... you get part of an incredible history, you enter with pride into family whose main meaning is pure excellence... you step on a unique level "without neighbours".

Ferrari it's the only "car" than go further than being a car.

of course the way it's materially composed, has an individual value... but that's not what really matters when you buy one...

when you drive it, you don't get just people admiration for owning a supercar... When people see a Ferrari, it's different from any other! You read respect, excitement, joy in the eyes of everyone that cheers you when you're on the road...

geting a ferrari... is getting a new state of mind.

i agree with u all completely. a Ferrari is built on performance. don't think im against Ferrari i love it, its just a question thats been pondering in my mind and i wanted to see what the overall Ferrari community had to say about it and not some hicks from the town i go to school in. they all say Ferrari is dumb and slow and what not but what ever.

    thanks for the responses

This is a good example of what NOT to ask on this forum. It's like saying "posers, please raise your hands".

We can criticize anything here, u know... u cant be 2 careful!

If someone wants to buy a Ferrari for the name, fine. Ferrari has amazing brand power. I like the 'status' my car has, but mostly I like it because (a) it's rare, (b) it's a real motorsports fan's kind of car, (c) it's friggin' gorgeous compared to modern cars and (d) when you drive it you feel like you could be Schumacher.

Yeah, there was some rumor to that effect.
