I've been looking at the 355's on autotrader.com, cars.com and ebay, out of curiousity mostly, and while I dont have specific examples, I've noticed a few of the spyders being priced below the Berlinetta's.

I know mileage, condition, belt service, valve guides/headers and most of all damage history/wreck/salvage all factor here, but assuming all of those being equal, why would a sypder of the same year be priced lower than the Berlinettas?

I might be imagining this, I've have to do a search on all 3 websites again, but I was curious if fellow FChatters would have an opinion as to why this would be.

Probably because more spiders were made, and there is more spider inventory on the market presently.

I think the GTS is the rare one.

To your point, possibly people have become gun-shy about the power top mechanism.

At any rate you should sell the Boxster already and buy one of these bargain Spiders.

Until you ride in one and hear it full-breadth and then wonder why one would buy a Berlinetta...

Top up Spyder is a little low budget and I wish I had the Berlinetta but top down and you remember exactly why you bought the Spyder... Nothing beats driving this car with the top down!

Wow, I didn't realize we had the same color 355. You are right, the B's are just stunning. I would hate to be blindsided by someone in a spyder. CRUNCH as you flip over.... Hey! you got to plan for the worst guys!! lol

Actually, If the cover was a little nicer on the spyder I would like it. It looks un proportional to me.

Are all you guys who own FCars mechanics? I'd NEVER tear apart my car like that. I can do simple stuff like change the oil, but I'd simply cry if I got it torn apart like that, I'd never get the dang thing back together.

........ I guess I just have to budget 50% more on repair costs ...........

But Dave Helms rocks, so when I buy one, I'll know it will be fixed by the best.

It's not so bad, looks scarier than it is. There's a ton of tips on this forum about how to do this stuff, and when you get stuck ask the question here and the many experts on the board are gracious enough to help out.

I once tightened up the passenger side mirror by myself. Also changed the battery. All in the same month.

Now I'm resting up for 2008.

Dont get me wrong, I love convertibles but if I were to get a 355 it would be a GTS and then a Coupe. Way too many convertibles on the market, the coupes and GTS are the most sought after therefore a handful for sale at any given time.

Spider prices tend to be seasonal so they tend to oscillate. GTB/GTS prices are more stable. GTS models are more common than GTB's in the US - the converse is true in Euro. Spiders are heavily favored in the US especially in FL and CA. Prices tend to follow the law of supply and demand.

I picked up a Spyder for $10K less than any Berlinetta I could find. I prefer the Berlinetta so if anyone has a nice clean Berlinetta in Florida or Georgia PM me as I am (casually) looking.
