Ok, I feel stupid asking this question, but I figured I'd just make sure before I try and sort it out. The speedo on my 308 reads '10 mph' when the car is stopped. This isn't normal... right?

I'm figuring it could only be the gauge that's the problem. I have a suspicion the reading isn't right at any speed. Seems to want to stay around 40mph when seat of the pants tells me I'm going anywhere from 20 to 60. Any recommendations on getting the gauge fixed? I know http://www.paspeedo.com/ has been recommended in the past. Any place else? Or any quick DIY fix? (He asks, wishfully)

You should look more closely at your picture. If you look in the middle of the yellow circle, you'll see a PEG. The needle of your speedo rests on this peg. Get a magnifying glass if you need to, and go out to your car. :) The needle can't go lower, unless you cut off the peg. Don't assume your speedo is incorrect at other speeds (even though it likely is) just because the needle is peg-resting when your car is stopped.

The speedos are off. There was a great thread done by someone who tried to really 'dial-in' his speedo, but I can't find it when I search for it. Anyway, he came to the conclusion that the instruments are just too imprecise to be calibrated perfectly. He calibrated his so it read close between the speeds of 40-90 I think. Mine reads pretty close between 60-100, but before and after, it is off. It reads lower at slow speeds, and higher at higher speeds.

That's ok Jeremy - I've asked a couple of questions that demonstrated my "newbie-ness" with the Ferrari. I see it as a right-of-passage... we have to ask questions that give the "old-timers" a chuckle... so they will feel inclined to share their vast Ferrari wisdom with us!

My speedo - otoh, rarely works... kinda sporadically jumps to life every so often... holds steady for 20 or 30 seconds... then drops dead again...

.... kinda like grandpa after getting his weekly viagra pills...

..the clock NEVER works, speedo part time OK.........drive on!

If the other cars are passing you, drive faster...

If you are passing all the other cars, slow down......

    Next question......

I probably wouldn't mind as much if my car could pass for 23K miles . . .

I've had it out a couple times before for a local guy to have a look at but no luck. I'd like to be able to fix it myself . . . anyone got any fundamentals on how it works?

I heard Palo Alto can take a while to fix stuff but I guess there's worse things than driving around without a speedo.

Thanks for the support, Eric. I now promise not to try and one up you with my crullers at the FFIC. :)

I should have known the Italians would do something weird with the speedo. I mean, come on, they can't even figure out the engine is supposed to go in the front of the car!
