I've been on Ebay 8+ years with great success. Now I don't like not being able to do due dilligence on people I'm bidding against. I feel too many sellers will just start up bidding their items. I know the practice has always taken place but I felt I was able to review bidders and determine myself if I thought the practice was happening. Now I'm in the dark.......

I might stop using Ebay all together because of this.

Add me to the list of people who might stop using it. Stupid move on Ebay's part. I've done thousands of transactions over the years and have had VERY good luck both in buying and selling. Like you, I prefer to evaluate who I'm bidding against, chiefly because Ebay sucks at policing their own sandbox against shills. My experience with Ebay has been going downhill over the last six months especially. Very little enforcement of their own policies, a horde of scam artists and now taking away my own evaluation techniques. They seem ripe for competition....

I don't know what good it will do, but I contacted Ebay and they sent me to this link to send them an email about my issues with the new policy. I sent an email......

Thanks, I will email my concerns as well, though I also suspect it will fall on deaf ears.

I'd look at history of people bidding against me, and it helped to understand how the sale was going to go (based on their past history) and if I was up against a whale. It helped when buying expensive stuff on Ebay. Saved me from wasting time when people who had a history of over-bidding showed up...with 5 days still to go.

Yeah, this is almost as good as the private feedback system they added a while ago.

Shill bidding and fraud are out of control there. Have not used ebay in ages as a result.

What were they thinking. This is just going to make scamming on ebay more common than it already is.

I hate ebay but found it was the only place I could get a complete set of Victory By Design DVD's.

I knew what the retail was on them when they first came out and stopped bidding slightly above that. The bidding went on for another 50 bucks and stopped around 200.00.

A couple of days later I got an offer for second chance at the same price I stopped bidding at. I feel like I didn't pay too much but I really wondered if someone wasn't trying to push it over 200.

I've seen bidding for auto parts go well over what it would cost just to order the stuff brand new online.

Auctions are NOT the best way to get a good deal on something. All you have to do is look at the STUPID prices people are paying for cars at Barrett Jackson.

F'k ebay. They're doing a lot of crap now that's irritating. They pulled one of my auctions because I was charging too much for shipping.

They've gotten really greedy I've noticed. They like pulling auctions, and making sure no-one wins auctions, because most of the time the item gets relisted. It's more $$ in their pocket.

And those f'n fee's. You gotta listing fee, a picture fee, a bold font fee, and on and on, then you have a final valuation fee? WTF. It's absurd at this point.

Problem with things like eBay is people complain yet continue to conduct business there. IMO they're way too big to be affected by these "boycotts" anymore. Even if they are affected, it would take a decade for eBay to go under.

Stuff is only worth what another person is willing to pay for it.

If someone wants to offer a ton more for something I have than what I think it's worth, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. (assuming I no longer want the item, of course).

I don't like the hidden bidder identity either. I don't even shop at ebay much.

I hate it. Ebay needs to care more about the saftey of buyers and sellers, but how hard would that be, to police everything on the site? On another note, I just sold a pair of lightly worn shoes on Ebay. The buyer gets them, I guess he goes running in them, and then emails me saying that he got the shoes, but they were not in the condition I stated. I've sold so many pairs of shoes on Ebay, and this guy says I do not live up to my item description, even though hundreds of others agree. He sent me pictures of the shoes and they were not in the condition I had sent them in, but I did not keep any pictures of the shoes after I sold them. Hm, he asked for me to send him something in the mail to make up for it, which I will do.

There are a large majority of people that mistakenly think that because it's an auction you're going to get a good deal and a number of SELLERS take advantage of that by "bidding up" their own product, by schill or otherwise.

If someone wants to spend stupid money that's their perogative but I am in a firm believer in buyer beware.

I think the spectacle of "Who has the bigger wallet" at Barrett Jackson is laughable, especially with muscle cars.....................a sucker born every minute.

It is very annoying. I understand the reasons but it is a pain in the butt when you want to know the particulars of the buyer. I hate the range of their feedback score and the fact that you can not view the exact details of their feedback.
