No association with the seller.. There is a pretty nice 400i silver/red 5 speed for sale in Canada. Has the cleanest engine I've ever seen. 52k kilometers. Built January of 1983. Serial #43125. It'll take low $30's to buy it. I'm not sure but I think if you're a US resident you have to pay some kind of import tax. If anyone wants info, drop me a note.
I don't know Brian. When I was looking for mine this one popped up on Ebay and I thought it was pretty nice looking. Obviously I didn't buy it. I found the email address of the seller the other day in my inbox and just for kicks asked if he still had it. Its a silver/red car with tan carpeting.
Can't find the exterior shot, but here is the interior Pretty clean looking Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just my tastes but I don't like the tan carpeting. I think it would change the car 100% if you went to dark red carpeting and it wouldn't cost that much to do so. With that silver exterior and oxblood interior I'll bet it would be striking.
Plus the color is off a bit in that photo. Look at the quarter panel, see how there is too much "yellow" in the photo.
Is this the car in Kamloops, BC? If so, I have a number of photos provided to me by the previous owner when it was for sale in December 2004 at C$35K. I have no association with the previous or current owners and have not personally seen the car. I understand that it was originally imported into the US and certified by Trend Imports (?) of Long Beach, CA. The car was on EBay earlier this year, by the owner in Kamloops, but failed to meet the minimum. I have attached four photos. I can't vouch for the color accuracy, but these might be more accurate than the previous post. What do you think? Good day Jon, Yes, I think this is the one. I spoke with the owner a few months ago and said that he purchased it from Vancouver a few years ago. Apparently it was well taken care of and was serviced by Joesph in North Van. He wanted $39K CAN for the car. It looks to be a very clean and nice one. I am planning to be in that area in a few weeks and so I suspect that I will take a look at it when I am there. Cheers, Sam
$39,000CAD for that? (Rougly $38,000, correct?) Hmm...I'm in the market for something nice above that kind of price. So, I might be a tad interested, but just a few questions. Are there any maintenance problems with 400i models? Anything a buyer should know about this model? Anyways, if things go well with the family, I'll make an offer.
Hi Sam I agree, probably the same car. I also spoke with the current owner, Franco, when it was on EBay. He was looking for C$39K and, being registered to his dalership, it was subject to GST (for all you Canadians out there). Franco is a very interesting person to speak with about Ferraris he has owned and his exerience working with Ferrari before immigating in the 1960's. I spoke with Joseph about a monnth ago about the car, although I'm more interested in a 328. He had not seen the car for some time, since it was for sale by the previous owner, but was aware it was presently in Kamloops. I claim no expertise, but I think if you were in the market for a 400i 5 speed, this is one to look at and seriously consider. It would be great fun to drive home on the Coquihalla! Jon
Rick The Canadian dollar is doing fairly well against the US dollar these days, but C$39K probably tranlates to about US$34-35K. If you were exporting it othe US, I don't believe you would be subject to the 7%GST although you might have to pay it and reclaim it. Jon
Good day Jon, I, too, spoke to Franco and Joesph a month or so as well. I found Franco to be very pleasant and straightforward fellow. Indeed his description and mechanical history was correlated by Joesph. The car does sound really nice and certainly worth a look. Given that it appears to be in excellent condition mechanically/cosmetically, is a 5-speed, and is close to me, I am seriously considering it. The only thing holding me back is garage space and play time... I will make a decision on it once I physically see the car. As for cruising the Coquihalla...this is exactly the type of road that this car was built for ... Cheers, Sam
Ah, ok. Thank you both for that information. I'm still waiting for what the family has to say, but to pass the time, I'll continue doing more research on used 400i's. Thank you both again.
