I went to Costco last night for a few things and should have turned around when I saw the Firetruck blocking the road towards Deerfoot Meadows -- nice big lake. But kept going and again should have turned around when I saw headlights coming toward me in my lane across from Sklar Pepplar but again nope. From the new Superstore to the end of the new Brick both lanes were covered in water and there were about 4 cars up to their windows in the water. Still...people tried to make it through. I just don't understand. At that ponit I turned around.

I was out fishing at Langara ... and left Vancouver Saturday afternoon, arriving back in T.O. last night ... looks like I missed all the fun!

2 years ago I was out there for the non-stop two week rain storm ... It just kept raining and raining ... even the Trans Canada Hwy was flooded in parts ... brutal.

Haha. I went to a pontiac dealership and the whole showroom was flooded. They said they would give us a good deal on a solstice which was completley up to the fender full of water .Hopefully places like kulu's and ZR's survived.

Let me guess.....McKay Pontiac....? They always get flooded due to the land layout.

    Talked to Kulu today....he's OK....as I am.

LOLL, you gotta be kidding me. Talk about hussling a deal. Guess they still go by old school auto-selling tools "A.B.S." Always Be Selling! Please tell me they threw the keys to your trade in the water too so you won't leave! :D J/k

In all seriousness, I hope you guys over there recover ok. Water damage sucks.

The first couple of shots... do you know who took them? They were being forwarded around my school a LOT.

Sheldon, great pics as always. That lightning one is amazing! I was trying to get one like that, but never managed to.

One of the first 722 SLR vs. LP640 races from a dig is out. Here's the write-up AND the video:

We finally did THE race! SLR 722, which arrived last night, versus the Murcielago LP640. First the setup....

The 722 has a full tank of 91 octane gas, and my wife is driving (130 pounds). She's in Sport mode, fully automatic. All she has to do is stomp on the gas and hold on.

I'm in the LP640, with 1/6 tank of gas, which is 101 octane racing fuel. I weigh 215 pounds. I'm in Sport mode too, but of course I have to paddle shift. PLUS, I'm holding the camera with my left hand, so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage.

We're racing to 130 Mph, then backing off, using the 722 speedometer as our guide (The LP is waaaay off, like always).

My wife starts us with a finger count up (1, 2, 3, GO!).

I'm NOT using any launch control, just stomping on it and upshifting at around 7500 RPM or so.

    Both cars are stock.

My start sucks, so please be nice! But, I think she got an early jump.

    See for yourself.

    http://media.putfile.com/SLR-722-vs-Murcielago-LP640

We raced again without me holding the camera, with similar results (I actually had a slight rolling start). Don't be fooled at the end of the video where I seem to be staying even (like if we raced to 200 I might catch up). She had backed off the gas already and was coasting, wondering what that little yellow speck in her rearview mirror was!

As a side note, we spent all morning racing our standard SLR versus the 722 the same way. At 130 Mph, there was a one car separation.

Do you think the outcome would be vastly different if the gal didn't get the early hop?

I can't say that the SLR styling is top notch, but it's definitely not a wallflower. That said, the one nice thing is that you can do repeatable hard launches from a stop or from a roll.

Remember the Car and Driver article with the Gallardo? I may be mistaken as I'm quoting from memory. They tried 4 hard launches then packed it in. The clutch was fried.

I'm not saying 0-60 launches are the apex of performance car metrics. Far from it, actually. I am saying though that it is nice to have a car that can be driven hard without having to worry about constant mechanical issues.

That said, nothing is going to change that many Ferraris and Lamborghinis are designed with a paint brush, while most Mercedes are designed with a computer by a robot.

    Metaphorically speaking, of course.

The 722 would still beat it, but maybe just not that big of a margin. Ferrari and Lamborghini are works of art IMO.
