Takes me back to high school, used to love this song.... As excitement shivers up and down my spine Down in his barn My uncle preserved for me, an old machine --- For fifty-odd years To keep it as new has been his dearest dream I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime... Wind in my hair --- Shifting and drifting --- Mechanical music --- Adrenalin surge --- Well-weathered leather Hot metal and oil The scented country air Sunlight on chrome The blur of the landscape Every nerve aware Just love that song..... Second would, of course, be Oh Yeah by Yello. James in Denver
I'm curious if Getty Lee or any of the others ever owned one? I remember bumping into him at the gym up in T.O. once and saying hi. I forgot to ask
Well, what I'd say absolutely for certain is that Geddy Lee never tried to start up a Ferrari that's been sitting around for 50-odd years.
Nah, look at the lyrics a bit closer. His uncle had been faithfully keeping it up like new for those 50 years, and recently our protagonist has been driving it weekly. Now where his uncle is getting his black market parts from, and what he's gotta pay for them, is the real question. Plus, I'd say his little run in with the cops is gonna cause a bit of a stir downtown, and will no doubt end badly for his uncle! Not that it matters; by 2112 all the planets of the solar federation will be invaded anyway. (Oh, didn't notice that James didn't include part about the run in with the cops. http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/red+barchetta_20119966.html)
Going next Wednesday opening night of Rush in Atlanta, I'm sure they will do Red Barchetta!! WOOO HOOOO! I love Rush.
Ditto. 4th row center. Rush Rocks! Another song that I used to sing to myself was from a James Cagney film. I can't remember the name of the movie or the actress he was with, but they were looking at cars in a showroom and she exclaimed she wanted "that one". His response was "that's a Ferrari! That car is fourteen thousand dollars!". She then breaks out into song with the chorus of "I'm sorrrry, I want a Ferrarrrri." That was (is) my personal theme song.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25M_XEf-o38 Original thread that posted this: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146887 James in Denver
That's from "Never Steal Anything Small" with Cagney and Shirley Jones. Edit: I hadn't seen that thread before, cool!!
Yep, I left out the cop chase. GLEAMING ALLOY AIR CAR SHOOTS TOWARDS ME 2 LANES WIDE ---banging head at work---- James in Denver
Personally speaking, the best Ferrari song is Black Devil Car by Jamiroquai. I like Rush and all but Jamiroquai is much more to my taste.
Awesome! Finally, I know what movie that was from. I caught that one scene on a lazy Saturday afternoon over a decade ago when I was early in my Ferrari obsession. When I would begin to sing that song (loudly) on a Friday night out with my friends, everyone would know that I had achieved loadedness...like a temperature probe poping on the turkey...HE'S DONE! Sherpa, I'm an old Rush fan from the early 80's. However, when Jamiroquai released Virtual Insanity and I was perusing the CD rack considering buying it, as soon as I saw the cover, I ran to the check out counter with it in my hand. I played the first 5 seconds of Traveling Without Moving at least a hundred times...usually while traveling at high speed in my Alfa 164S. I still pull that CD out every now and then. Good funky stuff. What's not to love about Jay Kay...a certifiable Italian car nut.
WOO-HOO----Myself and E60M3 are heading out to Nissan Pavillion for the Rush concert June 23rd!!!! Can't wait--This will be my 4th time seeing them...
Meh. I haven't been thrilled the last few times I've seen them live. Course I think they lost their way around about Signals. Best overheard quote from the last concert: "Man, there are more nerds here than an IT convention."
Actually, the "best" Ferrari song doesn't necessarily have to mention any specific car in the title or lyric..... It's the one that makes you double your speed when you crank it up while driving the car. Acid Rain by Dream Theater.
The guitar solo from Child in Time from Deep Purple Made in Japan could even get Glassman out of his garage!
I love that song too and it reminds me of summer after 9th grade. But one thing always bothered me: Ferrari was only 34 years old when the song came out but the car was 50 odd years old???!!!! Dan
I met Neil Peart in Montreux one night at like 1:30 Am... wierd story, but really nice guy! For me the best Ferrari song goes by the seasons... Spring top off.... Sweet child of mine - Guns & Roses Summer top off ..... Hungry Like the wolf... Duran Duran... I'm an 80's child! Fall top off.... Journey Dont stop believin.... Winter top on .... Aria from Pucchini La Boheme... it helps to have fresh bread and cheese in the car coming back from the bakery.... just like being in Italy!
