Yes indeed it is a very nice colour - to be honest I dont know the name of that particular colour, not even in Norwegian I DO however hope I'll find it on the bay someday.
@Scott85 Very nice collection you got there, those Police cars are just AWSOME!!! Love the F50 and the Murcielago
1 How long have you been collecting models? Alfa Romeo's for about 10 years. Now Ferrari models since about 2 years. 2 How did you get started and what age then? Bought 2 BBR 360 N/GT on eBay at age of 32. 3 what was your the first model you got and the latest? 1/43 BBR 360 N/GT. 4 what is your favorite model in your collection and why? 1/43 BBR F40. 5 how many 1:18 you have currently? None....don't like 1/18. 6 how much is the most you've paid for a model? $200. 7 most desirable model you still don't have? 1/43 BBR 288GTO. 8 what is your rarest, hardest to find or most valuable model? 1/43 FDS built kit 308gt4 Le Mans. 9 what 1:1 scale cars you have and drive? 1982 Mondial 8.
That's a strong statement. Care to elaborate? Personally I'd collect 1/43 only if I had the choice to start all over again. For space reasons and because there are more to choose from. But not looks wise.
I know this was not directed at me, but I personally (generally) do not like 1:18 models either. The quality of most 1:18s are more "toy" quality in my opinion. You have to spend way more for quality 1:18s (exoto, now BBR) and they take up too much room. I am amazed at the details achieved by the good 1:43 model builders. The variety of not only different Ferrari models, but also the variety of manufacturers is very extensive for 1:43. 1:18 have come along way in the past 10 years or so, but still the details (especially the chrome) looks very fake. 1:43 photo etched parts look great and much more impressive, in my opinion. I also am not as talented as some on the board that can modify 1:18 to suit them. My collection would be very lacking without the Le Mans winning 550 GTS, my 1964 330 GT 2+2 (4HL), Le Mans winning 250LM, 1947 125S, and the 1959 F1 Transport and 1:18 just does not have those available. Plus I would need a much larger home to house my collection if it were 1:18s.
I think this is a good spot to discuss this topic as it probably also helps the person doing the study get different view points. I basically agree with all you said. The reason I collect 1/18 is that a) I already started in that size b) it is big enough for me to modify and c) they look great on the shelf from a distance. It was very impressive for me to see all the Ferrari F1 cars in 1/43 at the Galleria in Maranello. You couldn't get even close to that level of completion in 1/18 scale. And if you did, you'd need a gym to display them. On a side note: 1/32 is becoming an increasingly popular scale thanks to the revival of slot cars. And today's slot cars have a lot more details than those from the sixties.
Speeking of improvement in specific scales, Have you seen the 1:64 issues from Kyosho? They are taking the "hotwheels" size to a whole new level... I will post some pictures when I find time to take them. Terry
I've made the change from 1:43 to 1:18 because in recent years the level of detail and quality of 1:18 models has gone up considerably and for a price comparable to and more often lower than the better 1:43 models. With 1:43 I always find something to moan about, especially the stance of the car. Downside ofcourse is the space you need for 1:18 but I'm not into quantity. I hope the number of different models in 1:18 will grow because right now there's not a lot to choose and my main interest lies in sports prototypes. There aren't many in 1:18 right now. Ciao, Peter

Hi Andreas, Sorry, but I just don't like the most 1/18. That's the size I played with as a child. Most 1/18 still look like "toys" (ofcourse some exceptions like 1/18 BBR Enzo). I am into 1/43 with most interest for the BBR/MR/Brianza kind of models. Not the Best/Bang/Top model stuff. Also quantity is not important but quality. I prefer to buy 1 nice BBR model above 5 or 6 Best/Bang or Top models. Just my 0,02ct.

this is highly interesting. I thought, that people, who purchase such expensive Ferrari modelcars at least own one REAL thing. Best Regards from Germany Martin
Collecting models and owning cars are totally different things. My interest for ferrari is about styling, history, and the creation of the myth. I don't own a 1/1 car, and wil never buy one either. The cars I am interested in are in a pricerange I can never afford. (and I am running a succesfull business). 1. For me a ferrari is not about making a statement. Nore in fashion or success. 2. I don't own any clothes, shoes, or things that show the logo. 3. A newer ferrari just doesn't interest me enough. (it's a car from a modern factory, like any other......) 4. I don't show my models round. (only friends and family know) 5. F1 doesn't interest me (0 models in my collection) 6. Its not what you own, its what you enjoy that counts. I don't care about my personal cars. They are just to move me from one place to another. They are hosed off, a few times a year, but thats it, i dislike polishing a car! Other than that I live and work by the North Sea, cars don't last long out here, with sand and seawater. Collecting is making choices. 1. Yes, I collect expensive models. 2. They are extremely rare and therefore keep there value. 3. I have small collection. (I display them all in a nice way) 4. As stated I only buy a few models a year 5. The current collection took me 19 years. 6. Any serious hobby is expensive. (and I don't smoke or drink alcohol). 7. No I am not boring 8. There is allways something new to want.......... 9. Its about making choices. 10. I don't want to own the models everybody can buy around the corner. Anybody that buys 30 to 40 hotwheels a year can choose to buy just 1 Brianza or 4 bbr's and that saves a lot of space. These are personal opinions, I am not telling anybody what to do or collect, but its how I like it. (a few models of my collection are posted in the thread, very rare models)
