It was reported that the judge's order didn't allow for the electronic device. However, the jails have the ability to flex the judgement? What I don't get in the first place is why these celebrities, with all the money they have, don't hire a town car/limo for the night?

She isnt getting the same treatment. She's being singled out because she's a celebrity. The 23 days is b.s. Anyone else would have either not gone to jail, had house arrest for 30 days, or walked out of that place between 24-72 hours.

The corrections dept does not have the money, the time, or the interest in holding someone for 23 days on a driving while under suspended license conviction. Plain and simple. I've known individuals with 2 dui's in less than a year get 3 days and they blew way over .08.

The media is trumping this up and courts are playing it rough to make themselves look good, scare people, and use her as an example.

When the corrections dept stops releasing everyone early, stops processing and releasing in 24 hours the non-violent, petty offenders, then we can
talk about favoritism to the select few and payoffs.

I was all ready to forgive her when I thought she would do the time allocated like a real human being but she's turned out a 'wuss' and let herself and others down. Role model - NOT.

I guess people do not have important enough issues to worry.

Did anyone else notice that most of the outrage has been from guys from Texas? :)

My ex Fiance was sentenced to 90 days in the same jail for the exact same violation. She had a DUi and didnt do community service and got caught driving with a suspended license.

As I said she had 90 days ( or close to it ) and did about 2 weeks before being let out from overcrowding.

Not saying you havent known people who got off easier..but it does happen and frequently ( I could name similar situations )

    The judge sentenced Paris fairly.

No offense, but that's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. No one would go to jail because they want to. Anyone that's been arrested and placed in holding wants to get the f out and NEVER return.

I said the same thing about Mel Gibson. IMO they're a bit naive in their desire for a bit of freedom, add a bit of ego and next thing you know they're driving around buzzed.

Latest is that the prosecutors office filed a petition and she will be going back to court, and possibly back to jail.

Sorry but I think she deserves it. These people do not live normal lives. They are coddled by every part of society and the DUI and driving on suspended license is just a fine example of total disrespect for society and the law. This 3-days stuff is BS. I know people who got more time than that for similar or lesser offenses.

And it's really hard to be unbiased in the whole thing. People either like her in which case she's a poor victim of a jealous bureaucracy or they dislike her in which case she's getting away with murder.

Putting myself in the middle for a moment, I think she should get a similar sentence to what most would get, and it should take into account the circumstances of what she did. There's a difference between getting nipped driving without a license when you're on your way to work, and doing it when you are a celebrity. Come on folks, this ain't brain surgery. She of all people doesn't need to be driving, so why bother doing it? And the whining after the fact and requests for pardons? Puhleaze - how many pardons from the gov are even looked at for such minor offenses?

I think she should go back to the pokey and do at least a couple more weeks.

If going to jail gives her more street cred with the rappers, then so be it.

I say give the girl a break: she's just young and stupid. If being stupid is enough reason to put someone in jail, then there wouldn't be enough jails to accommodate. I do hope she learned something from the time she had to spend there, however.

She will probably be going back soon enough (i.e. tomorrow), so more time to reflect on the errors of her ways.

I knew she'd find some way out of it, but I've lost all respect for California with her spending only 5 days. We should Kick California out of the Union and make them operate on their own for a while.

Forgive me but, being stupid is why the majority of inmates are in jail. If ignorance of the law is not a defense, neither should being stupid.

Seems to be different from place to place.

    The problem is:
    1) I do think Paris didn't make a good impression last time by being late to her court date for sentencing.
    2) Saying "she didn't know her license was suspended", depsite signing statements that stated that.
    3) Not enrolling in her alcohol education class as required by her prohibition. Remember, she violated her prohibition (not the DUI, which placed her on prohibition).
    4) Her mom's poor behavior in her sentencing date in the court.
    5) She's late again today, and wanted to phone in instead of following the orders of the judge to appear in person.

I think that her sentence was fair considering these factors.

Of course, the problem is you have a court's order/power vs. the sheriff's power. It just seems to be a conflict of power. Just curious, are you calling the DUI petty or the prohibition violation?
