Can anyone confirm what brand of oil filter was used as OEM fitted originally to the 308. I am aware of UFI and Fram and use the UFI with confidence but would like to settle a debate.

The North American 308 GTB/GTS Owner's manual states that two types are prescribed:
    LUCAS G 085
    FRAM PH 2804-1

The UFI ones came much later than when these cars were made.

Lucas?! As in British electrical company Lucas? Yikes! I thought I only had to worry about that on my MGB and MGA! ;)

Seriously, a lot Lucas' bad reputation is exaggerated.

These are the best!!!! By Far!!! UFi's are OK but expensive and had failure problems in the past. Fram was bought out and their filters are cheaply made, Baldwin are the best made and inexpensive!!!! BTW OEM was Fram, however some recent Fram filters have seen collapsed elements.........

Thanks for the info. I have a 85 QV Australian delivered and it sounds like the UFI would have been standard on this.

    Hello from Germany,

incidentally I ordered some a few days ago. The exact type of the Baldwin filter is B 253.
Just to be curious; how much is that filter in the U.S. ? Over here, the least expensive source I found, charges approx. $ 17,-- each.

    Best Regards

    Martin

Oh yes. I was a victim of one of the spectacular failures. Looked like someone had hooked up an oil sprinkler system in my engine compartment. Fortunately the oil change had been done by my mechanic and he (or UFI) ate the cost of the flat-bed, engine cleaning, new filter, labor, etc..

Nothing like having your car flatbedded to the mechanic with oil running down both rear wheels and having the mechanic go "uh-oh". He figured I blew the engine.

I just found the Baldwin distributor warehouse near my place,
My cost each $11.74 or if I buy a case of 12, $9.98 each.
Now is this a goo price?

Never use a filter without a standpipe, many filters fit the Ferrari but the standpipe holds a little oil in it for start up. Im not try to belabor the point, however I bought a UFI for $60 from FO? before, or you can buy the Bladwin a better filter designed for the Ferrari for $11, Its red, it has checkered flags on it. What more can you ask for. BTW if you dont believe me go buy a filter cutter at an airport and cut some filters up, there are websites out there showing them and the Frams are crap, the UFi's are good, but the Baldwins have never blown up.... Why take a chance

    Hello from Germany,

once in 12 years of 308 ownership I had one UFI filter which rattled the standpipe loose within 500 mls. after replacement. And it was the latest design / last digits .02 Suddenly one morning the oil pressure gauge took TOO long to come up. First suspect was confirmed. I removed the UFI, shook it a little and heard, what has happened.
Then I tried the Baldwin B 253. No more problems since.

    Best Regards

    Martin
