Is it just me or am i loosing it, but i could swear i see the top element on the Mclaren just moving down under high loads, Ie then end of the straights... not the entire element moves but where i notice it the most is on the right side of the car from the driver view, where the bump over the nose connects with the flat part of the wing. just that section there is the only part i see moving, but i do see movement, well i think i do... and yes i know the FIA had ruled it legal...

is it just me or do you see it as well?

Yea, this was covered a few weeks ago. It appears to my eyes that the entire element, top and bottom, seem to be moving. Many on here were screaming that it would be banned and that it needed a center post from the top element to the nose in order for the top to not be pushed down. The top isn't moving it's the other bits that are. Anyway the FIA says it's legal and I'm still waiting for those who said it would be banned to eat some crow. :)

well, FIA passed the BMW's twin towers last year too. but it ended up being on the car for only 2 races.

this particular race, it's a high speed circuit, and FIA has stepped up with their tests to stop whatsoever flexing.

we'll see how long this wing will last. i really think it's flexing too much.

My thoughts exactly, but i must give the kuddos so far for passing it off with out much grief from the other teams. I mean people had a cow over the Ferrari element moving last year, i could only assume that they would be up in arms about this as well.

Agreed, I'm really surprised no one has really complained about the thing. Everyone had a fit over the Ferrari wing last year, and this is even more obvious than the videos that were created last year of the Ferrari front wing.

The argument is that it's moving up and down only. The wing itself always maintains the same angle relative to the car. If the wing were to be flattened out by the moving air, then there would be a serious performance advantage for the Macs. I'm guessing it's normal for the whole wing structure to move up and down, that's why other teams haven't raised hell about it. Theirs must move too. The only difference with the Macs is that with the wing going the across the nose it's very easy to spot the movement. With the other teams the top wings are either attached from the endplate to the car, or from the end plate to another vertical structure that rests on the lower wing. So you can't really notice the movement.

I would think it would have to change its AOA if it is being flattened out. At least have them put a support on it to keep if from flatting out. its goes along with the rear wing saga as well it flattened out some but still it was deemed to be illegal after a clarification of the rules.

According to this side of the Athlantic media, the porurpose of that wing is not to to add downforce, or at least that is not the main function. The primary purpouse is to drive more fresh air into the air intakes and coolers and suppousedly is big part of the improved performance of the Macs engine.
