Nice video. I thought he was just cruizin with it. I think he could have caught the P-car if he wanted to.

When the 333sp's ran at Daytona in the 24hrs, hearing them come out of 4 full tilt and through the tri-oval was a nearly religious experience.

Yea, it seemed that way. The only time he seemed to get on it was the straight away when he knew people were watching ;)

    The 333 is a catch 22.

It doesn't perform well until you're pushing it. Due to the aerodynamic grip aspects, you have to push it to get the car to work. You also can't be gentle with it. You need to shift aggressively for the box to work smoothly. Nursing it around won't make for a satisfying ride. Lots of understeer. Getting comfortable with going through a corner faster (when you've just nearly slid off), can be a bit unnerving, but swallow hard, do it, and the car will stick.

Of course, if you are pushing it, an off in a 333 can be an expensive proposition. The carbon splitter alone is a few grand. And a new Crawford wing isn't inexpensive, either. Parts are being produced, though, so you can get them, but unless you're prepared to write some big checks, there aren't many that feel totally comfortable running the 333 at speed.

Also, it's possible that the driver/owner is preserving the motor and short shifting. The time-to-rebuild on the 333s is 24 hours if revved to redline. Of course, that's in competitive race mode. So, he may be keeping the revs down to stretch the engine life. Rebuilds are pricey on the 333s, btw.

Great stuff. Thanks for the vid.

    1. If you own/track a 333sp, you are not worried about rebuild/repair costs.

    2. Its amatuer drivers driving them for fun, very unlikely you are going to see a 333sp driven at even 8/10ths of its potential at a DE.

    3. Awesome car, but there are many others from its class (and the class below now) that can now run faster than it. Its a prototype that could not keep up anymore, there is a reason Ferrari stopped making them.

I have some videos of 333sp's running at a couple tracks in the northeast...and a couple from in car when I passed them :)

I believe this video is from the Father/Son that run the car by themselves, itskind of funny they bring it to events in a tiny enclosed tag along.

Its pocono though, if you have HP you can beat anything. Grab a porsche turbo or a bolt-on modified c6z06 and you'll toast most cars.

I think that yellow porsche is one of the 993 gt2's that visits pocono, there is two, and if they are the ones I ran with a couple years ago, they have sequentials, and about 650hp :)

    FormulaRacer,

    1. Contrary to popular belief, I know several owners who are very spendthrifty when it comes to operating costs (and repair costs related to a crash). A number of them won't purchase cars like this though they can easily afford them just because of the ongoing costs. Operating this car as a two-person father/son team is fine as you can start it with just the two, but you could certainly have one or two additional crew, and the operating costs can easily spin out of control. And, just because they can afford to, doesn't mean they will wear the car out. And, a catastrophic crash could be a writeoff or hundreds of thousands to repair. While they can afford this, too, no one is truly interested in throwing money down the drain. While I don't want to speculate on any specific owner's finances, there are certainly owners out there who are overextended and can only afford to run their cars on shoestring budgets. I know this for a fact.

    2. Agree 100%. There are always instances of more $ than talent. I'm not suggesting this is one of those, but putting 600 odd bhp in the hands of a novice/mid-level driver doesn't always produce good results. Anyway, the irony is that 8 and 9/10ths is where these cars begin to really take off. Horsing the car around a 5 or 6/10ths isn't much fun (heavy steering, balky shifter, aforementioned understeer, etc.). It's cool, and the car can pretty much out drag and brake anything at the local track days, but in order to get the car working, it needs more input. However, I would certainly not advocate driving beyond one's ability in any car, let alone this one.

    3. Agree 100% that there are faster cars. The technology basically dates to the mid-90's, so all the cars built subsequently have a good chance of being substantially faster (Audi R8, Bentley EXP Speed 8, for example) as well as possibly some of the older technology (Porsche 962, maybe? Just because the technology marches on doesn't mean a faster end product). I can't say why Ferrari terminated the 333 program. However, the car had been around for a while, had won some races (but wasn't totally dominant) and the 333 program did draw resources away from the F1 program. I doubt SpA said to themselves, "we should get out of this because we can't win." It was probably more of an allocation of resources issue. That's just my speculation, though. It is still one of the fastest Ferraris, it's red and it's from Maranello. So, in my mind, it's one of the coolest cars to own and run. Even if they're not on the podium.

I still love the 333, though. I just think there's nothing like that engine whine when it revs up and down. One of the baddest cars out there.

    Shelton was asking $800,000 for theirs;

"Yes, this is #41 in the series. This is a 2001! This is the last car built. Never driven, except for testing at factory. Car has been in storage here, since delivered to the states. Has has been serviced annually by our tech team. This is, truly, a one of a kind, collector's car and the price reflects that."

short and sweet voice over, fabulously sounding engine and luckily no crap soundtrack/music that someone has added thinking that it makes it so cool.
