Explain to me why... (Race Spoiler!)

...FA was not penalized for cutting the first corner at the start of the race!? He lost one position to Heidfeld, but certainly could have lost more...

Crappy race overall; at lest RK escaped that awful crash relatively unharmed.

LH/McLaren are starting to remind me of the Senna days.

 

I do believe you will only get penalised if you pick up positions cutting the track, otherwise you're safe.

 

I think that boy should get some sort of penalty. His race craft getting back on the track after the excursions have been less than WDC like. the starts of the race come most to my mind, Spain and today. Off the track then a quick dash back on with little care for the drivers behind.

Speaking of the penalty rule, I think (not sure about it) it doesn't say you're punished for gaining positions but rather for "taking advantage" of cutting the corner. So it is or rather would have been up to the stewarts to discuss if Alonso took advantage of that incident in the first corner.

 

It seems like he did take advantage, because he just nipped FM for a position...

 

I too am eating crow regarding his staying clear of the Wall of Champions. Now Alonso will be driving for Williams or Red Bull sooner than I thought.

 

I'm definitely going to download this race (ITV version) once it pops up on bit torrent. Plus, I want to see the pre and post race coverage that FOX so kindly left out.

 

Same here. I hate when it is covered by anyone other than speed. Needless to say I missed the first 1/3 of the race because it didn't record.

 

I'm sad to say even ITV didn't hang around for post race comments, at least not in the original coverage; they're doing a highlights programme though, which should have more additional comments.

The race took longer than usual due to the 4 SC periods, and god forbid anything delay the almighty Corrination Street...

 

Because those are the rules. Read the rulebook. (how many times did the crew say that on air? lol)

 

Juan Montoya got black flagged in Montreal 2 years ago, while he was leading the race, for the exact same infraction. Those are the rules.
