I feel this episode (hopefully) deserves to not be grouped into the "crappy" episode thread. O man, its been a nice journey with Tony. Don't be like so many shows and crap the final episode :(.

What's left for me to keep subscribing to HBO after tonight?

    sell out to me.
leaving it open ended like that must be for future movie $.
finale of cheers, friends, etc was more satisfying.
    should have been a masterpiece.

I'm def glad Phil caught his. I would like to have saw more related to the feds closing in. All in all, not the best finale in the world, but far from the worst.

They start filming in December for the movie.

The ending was a shock, and at the same time I kinda expected something like that from Chase. He's been messing with the audience lately, a lot. He said he's had the ending all planned since the beginning though.

You gotta remember, he hates television series. Did you catch the thing on the tv about the guy begging to do a series?

I think it was a brilliant ending, even if it was a let down of sorts. This show was never really about the mob anyway.

Loved the crack at the new Lexus self parking feature with Meadow not being able to park the car. Hilarious.

Was glad to see Phil get popped too. I was laughing my a$$ off when the truck rolled over his head.

My thoughts exactly. Made me glad I haven't followed the series as close as I did for the first couple seasons. Oh well, that's an hour of my life I won't get back.

But I would have loved to see some of the people watching from home when the screen went black at the end. I wonder how many people started messing with the remote controls for the TV wondering what the heck was going on with their cable service!!!! :)

I took a flight home tonight that left at 8:45 and I didn't get home until after 1. My wife and I DVR'd and just finished watching it.

When it blacked out, we thought the show ran over the hour and our DVR cut it off. We were so aggravated until the credits started rolling. :)

During the last scene, I kept expecting someone to walk in and blow Tony away, particularly the dude who came in ahead of AJ, the camera kept cutting to other folks in the diner, making the audience wonder which one was going to do it. I felt a sense of impending doom then black. Brilliant! It left me feeling just as the characters would feel almost everyday.

I laughed my a$$ off too when Phil's head was crushed. Phil was trying to regain a sense of family pride lost since they immigrated and were forced to change their name. But he was really a POS. Remember what the Egyptians would do to erase someone from history? They would obliterate their faces from statues, bas-reliefs, and paintings. Well, Phil's face was certainly obliterated! LOL

I can't take credit for the thoughts below. Someone forwarded them to me, but pretty cool analysis:

Ironically though, Phil's death probably saved those kids in the car from
getting hurt. Phil's wife jumped out leaving the car rolling with the kids in it. Phil stopped the car, albeit with his head! LOL.

Fascinating- I thought the cat also symbolized the past ( the way it kept staring at Christopher's picture, etc, then it showed up at Satriale's ). Ironically Tony did not have a problem with the cat because he seemed to have come to terms with his past (he made peace with Junior etc). The above analysis would make sense in that, even though Tony feels his past is behind him, maybe that's not his choice to make. I also found it interesting that the cat was driving Paulie crazy, to the point of smacking it with a broom, he then started sweeping like he was literally trying to "sweep the past under the rug".

I caught a theme of how everyone basically sold out their principles. At the end, Carmels had her new spect house, AJ and Meadow have brand new cars, everything is hunky dory as long as the money is flowing in. That's how shallow these people are. Even Agent Harris sold out, having an affair with a co-worker and passing Tony confidetial info on Phil's whereabouts. In a final ironic twist, we are left to wonder whether David Chase himself sold out, setting us up for the Sopranos movie. I don't think he did.

Interesting...But remember, one of the black guys was killed while trying to off Tony...

I picked up on most of that stuff too. No matter what, his life and his problems will continue...the indictments, the RATS, the potential assasination attempts, the problems with his family, his crew, his own mental health...until something catches up to him.

That's not all true. That guy at the counter is credited at "Members only guy", not Nikki Leotardo.

The kids in the shop with Bobby were just kids, I don't believe they were boy scouts.

One of the black guys was killed.

If you watch it, the ending is meant to be open ended, interperted as you wish. Chase was saying that life goes on and on. There is no nice little ending with a neat bow on top like most tv show's end.

This was never about the mob. Tony's never gonna change, that point was made a long time ago. That's when the show really ended.

I hope they hurry up with that movie. Last couple of seasons I have had a bad thing for Meadow. I haven't felt like this since way back in 5th grade when I fell in love with Valerie Bertinelli.

That was 1979, I thought I was over that kind of thing...

I watched the very first episode ever last night for a kick and she was NOT hot back then.

It has been nice watching her develop into a world class hottie. It would be worth getting whacked by Tony just to play in that Meadow...
