I want to make a few photo albums and I want to frame a few pictures also. I took a few what... 10x 12's I guess and I want even bigger pictures. Also a friend said you can get pictures put on canvas that look like paintings, has anyone tried this? I think she went to walmart for that. I don't know if they would have the best quality machines....

PM or post here if you've done this or have a tip.

    Thanks.

Have you tried those online sites like Shutterfly?
Have you tried the local walgreens/eckerds/cvs?

If it's a digital photo, it mght look back because of the low resolution (if it's a low res photo)

Trust me, all of my car photos are high resolution efforts!
    Thanks for the tips guys.

Am I to assume that any photo place can blow-up a picture to a rather large size?

I will guess that the 30,000 dollar machine does all the work....

For a really large photo job, I would suggest a photo lab for real expertise.

I would recommend you visit a solid, reputable Photo lab - do NOT visit a Wal-Mart/Drug Store/Office place to develop quality images you're going to spend money having matted and framed. You'll want someone who will work to clean your negative or slide so the image reproduced is free of lint, fingerprints, and smudges/crap before feeding it into the C6 processing machine. If you have B&W images, consider hand-developing services or Silver Gelatin (if they offer it) - a MUCH classier product. You'll want someone who can/will adjust image brightness and contrast to your taste, offer lustre/matte vs. glossy paper, and a helpful white border to the image for matte framing.

Keep in mind, if you used standard 35mm film, of the 2x3 image ratio when enlarging.......also, I hope you used low-speed film when you shot. Faster-speed film doesn't look so good (because of the grain) when enlarged to something larger than 8x12.....There are some Photoshop add-on software that can correct this in the digital realm (allowing you to go as large as you want), but you MUST scan high-res and rely on computer algorithms to extrapolate pixels that are not there in the original.

I do pro photography work and I get everything printed at White House Custom Color. http://www.whcc.com

They aren't the cheapest but they are the best and they can print VERY large including canvas prints. I had a few 24x30s printed last week that came out great.

If you're looking for a simpler site to use and one that's not as pro oriented, check out http://www.Mpix.com ... great prints on top notch paper and an easier site interface.

Avoid Shutterfly like the plague. How a printing service can FUBAR the color palette THAT bad is beyond me.

thanks for the posts Michael, Jim and Bill. I'll read up on this later and yes Jim Carsand is still there.

Funny, I thought Carsand-Mosher was for doing port and polishes to tuner cars...

They have been around for ever and always came thru for me when I needed them, Also why complicate things when you can walk in the door there and get what you want... Rather than the issues that I run into when ever something has to cross the border to the US...
