328 runs rough

Check your plug wires... Especially the boots that go over the plugs... I had that problem a few years ago....

 

When my ignition module was going bad on the rear bank...the syptoms began first at the lower RPMs. Soon thereafter, the rough running was throughout the RPM spectrum. A timing light on either bank will ID if it is confined to one bank or another or more of a systemic problem.

 

This can happen when a plug extender is going bad. Sometimes you get a completely dead hole, sometimes it just runs bad at low RPM. First thing to check, especially if you recently got water on your motor.

Yup, it is usually ignition related. I would start with what was mentioned first, extenders and wires. If water got down one of the plug holes, that can start a miss too. And usually, only replacing the plug will fix it. Then you need to replace the plug well cap, to ensure water doesn't get down it again. You can tell if they get wet, the plug will probably be a bit rusty on the outside. I had this problem on my 308. New plug well caps from T.Rutlands fixed it up. Never had a problem on my 328, as they had a better sealing system, of course the ones on my 308 where over 23 years old!!

Inspect the extenders, they seem to be the culprit as often as the wires.

 

+ 1. Sometimes the plug extenders can look completely normal and still be bad. I got a set like that from one of the more popular supplier of parts.

 

you going to leave the plug wells open?

if the entire taylor straight boot will fit in the well with enough space for the oem boot to go on top, then the only trick is getting the 8mm wire through the oem boot.

I used a piece of tubing that I managed to drill out just large enough for the 8mm wire to slide into, and still retain enough wall thickness to not bend. Clamped that in a vise and used a bit of lube on it, then it was possible to force the oem boot over the tube - essentially, you have to straighten the 90 degree bend inside the boot. Once the oem boot is over the tube, you can just thread the taylor wire through and then pull off the oem boot along with the wire.

I ws just attaching ends to the taylor wires and then working them back into the oem boot, but it'd also work for what you need, though you'd need to put the boot over the tube in the other direction.
