This race in Montreal really has me scratching my head. Why can't these 'greatest drivers on Earth' F1 guys keep the cars on the course (and off the barriers)? Compare it to Portland where they had their first standing start, cleanly, and a rather uneventful race from an 'incident' standpoint. Is there a Nascar mentality in F1 developing? Cars are expendable? What gives?

The Montreal race was a mess. It looked more like an off-road rally than a GP. I watched the Champ car race in Portland also and while it didn't hold my attention as well as the fiasco in Canada, they managed to run the full 105 minutes without a caution. Probably doesn't make them better drivers, but I'd place Champ car ahead of IRL and way ahead of Nascar in the department of skill.

F1 theorhetically has the better drivers.

    Otherwise the IRL.

I would take Kanaan, Dixon, Andretti, Franchitti, Wheldon, Castroneves, Hornish, Sharp, even Patrick, any day over Champ Car.

I think its more the track, low down force high speed and close walls. Most gp's what are med to high down force have little happening in terms of off track excursions. but i think since its a rather low down force track teams are trying to push it to the limits with mechanical grip and are trying to get the most stick out of the tires so that they can run as little wing as possible.

Its a paradox, bc it makes for an 'interesting' race, at least not simply a high speed parade, but omg, what a mess? I would have been so pissed if I spent the time and money to go there for that fiasco...what a joke. On the positive side, it was downright funny to see Wurtz on the podium with Hamilton, standing the same height but a full step down were his feet! LMAO...how does that guy get fitted for an F1 car?

They certainly have more name recognition in the IRL....I guess from Indy 500 winners. I just see those Champ car guys hitting their apexes and coming inches from the barriers lap after bloody lap...ya, its boring sometimes. But I applaud the driving!

Ditto. Montreal is notoriously tough in this regard. Add to this the fact that support races are now being run on race day. In the past, this was never the case to avoid soiling the track, which seems to have happened.
