Are they worth it ? HP upgrade and sound, car has a Tubi now. What do people think and has anyone done it?

89.5 Red / Black, nicest one that I have ever seen (everyone thinks that) should be keeping the 328 GTS company in about a week. To my wife.... "I have a new mistress in my life, she is sexy, a red head, and I can always do what I want and she never talks back to me (she didn't like that one). I will soon have my 1st TR

    Ciao,

    Andrew

More HP for sure. They add 30+hp to the 360 (dyno results). I think I read somewhere they add about 7-10% hp. It may be psychological, but I felt like there was added performance when I installed mine.

As to the sound, since I added the Hyper-Flows at the same time as the X-OST, I can't really say, other than with both added the sound is AWESOME.

Check out this post for sound clips ...

What makes the Hyper-Flow different from other high performance Cats? Any technical drawings, engineering data or explanation? Greg

Can't comment relative to "other high performance cats", but this from their website is the meat of the advantage relative to stock ceramic cat types (but they should add some pictures):

"Our stainless steel metallic core with its exclusive treating process easily out flows even the best ceramic units..."

The top photo shows the Hyper-flow construction which has a wound corrugated (thin) metal substrate. The bottom photo shows the stock TR cat construction with a 20x20 cells per inch monolithic ceramic substrate (that needs thicker walls to support itself) so the actual open area is less per square inch of total area. They did a nice job on the stock TR cat of using a very fat cat body (to give as much open area in the ceramic substrate as possible), but this increases the expansion and contraction flow losses at the entry and exit of the cat (note that the Hyperflow cat doesn't have as big a body relative to the pipe size). Not sure how the lengths of the substrates compare.

When things go way wrong (i.e., overheating), I'm sure the metal substrate would fail just like the ceramic substrates, but the metal substrate might also have some "robustness" advantages in normal use (i.e., no fracturing/cracking).

(sales pitch off -- but Troy deserves some support for giving us a better product at a lower price -- the price of stock F cats is just insane)

I purchased Hyperflow cats for my 87 TR, and got a nice hat also! ( for free! )

But if I had to do it over again, I would probably save the money and just put some test pipes on, but make sure there is a provision for O2 sensors.
