I seem to have an igntion problem as described below

Car bought only 1 week ago. On journey up North and about 70 miles from home engine went ‘flat’ with noticeable power reduction and a reluctance to rev past 4000rpm. When parking it was noticed that offside exhaust (fed by nearside bank of cylinders) was very dirty and emitting black sooty smoke.

Problem had disappeared the following day and car ran well with full power above 3000rpm. However below this speed the ‘take-up’ during low engine speed is ragged and not progressive-result is that car is very fussy to drive in town as instead of progressive acceleration high revs in a low gear have to be used and progress is jerky.

The problem part seems to be the magnetic igntion sensor attached to the base of the distributor, it's in brown bakelite and has a 3/4" magnet inside and a single screw connection, in Emgland this bit can only be supplied with a brand new distibutor costing £1300 plus....this part must fit something elseso have a look guys and see if you can help...my E-mail address is [email protected]. Thanks guys

The title should say it runs like a lambo.

Cant help you, try trutlands. I know they have an NOS distributor as well and may have the pickup or a used distributor. I bet theres another car that shares this component.

Sorry Les, I don't know where to get one either, but as Newman said they probably cross over to some other make of car.
And tuff luck for only having your car for one week,,,,
I'm sure someone will pop in here with a source for the part, for a New Boxer owner!

David, a used one is better than a broken one, we've siliconed up the old one and it seems to be working but 'd rather have a spare. HOw much do you want for them and how do I pay....I live in North of England near SCotland so I won't be popping along to pick it up....are you OK for sending it Transatlantic? Les
