EVO Magazine Dino Article

My upstairs neighbor, a Ferrari nut, just gave me a copy of the July EVO magazine ("The Thrill of Driving"), with a long article on Dino Ferrari and a test drive of a 246 GT in the hills around Maranello. Well-written, and the writer definitely got it. Nice pix of a beautiful silver GT, too.

Seems the Dino is getting a lot of attention from the British car press lately!

I'd scan it and post it, but I'm told that's an actionable copyright infringement...

 

Dude, I have uploaded many EVO articles b4 and never had any issues. If you scanned the whole magazine you might have issues but not afew pages. Don't be scared to upload.

 

Got it last week at Brisbane airport, I haven`t seen it at the newsagents. Not a bad article, very informative. Good shots of silver lhd 246Gt.

 

It's a great article IMHO. I knew that the Dino was inspired by Enzo's lost son, but didn't know any more details than that - I'd strongly recommend anyone wanting to get a basic background story on Dino/the Dino to pick up a copy.

 

Not just inspired "in memoriam", Alfredino designed the engine.

 

Until this article I never knew Dino was an engine designer

 

Vittorio Jano designed the V6 engine. Dino encouraged its development nothing more.

 

Alfredino suggested, about 6 months before he died, to Enzo that a V6 design would be worth pursuing and he discussed engine details with Vittorio Jano in his hospital bed. The majority of the design work was done by Jano. The result of this collaboration was an engine which displaced 1.5 litres and was the basis for a larger bore engine which sat in the car named after him, the 206, which was launched 12 years later. Enzo and Dino changed Jano's mind to go with a 65deg design whereas Jano wanted to go with the traditional 60deg.

So to say he designed it is incorrect, and he never saw the engine completed. He did, however, have a large contribution to the end product and the car should be proud to wear his name (and not aftermarket Ferrari badges ).

This is untrue, the 65° V came from Jano's initiative and its purpose was to allow larger carburetors to be fitted as the initial 1,5lt engine was a race engine.

 

I have read many books and articles on the development of the Dino engine and have come to the some conclusion that Statos has. The Alfredo story seems to me to be a myth to assuage Enzo's guilt for, well, I could name about 10 or 15 things (with no disrespect intended towards Enzo and his family).
