Ok, being a Porsche guy all my life I've heard the calling. As in a fantastic '92 348 TSS. Drove it today and was absolutely smitten. Stunning car, all the right history, 38000Kms and pretty much perfect. So heres the issue: I've got this equally perfect '89 Porsche Speedster. I have no room for both in my life or garage space. I need HONEST opinions from you guys as to which is better long term. I always said I would never have a Ferrari but this car has got me wanting one like never before. Help me decide. I feel I need this car in my life but will I miss the Porsche?

Toughest decision I've ever had to make...

See, he said HONEST opinions, not stupid insults to make you feel better about your investment. We all know Porsches are nice cars, no matter what you want to say about them. Now, to the real topic... Bigman, take a nice long drive in that Porsche... then go for another test drive in the Ferrari. Which car gives you the amazing feeling, the thought that THIS is the way driving is supposed to be, it's all about what makes you happy. If the Ferrari makes you feel like you're on top of the world, it's going to do that for a long time, the feeling doesn't just disappear. At the same time, if the Porsche is really what brings you joy, that's going to last long term as well. Just go with your gut, don't worry about others' opinions, it's all about what you're more comfortable with as a driver and what will give you the most enjoyment. :)

Good luck on the decision, I can imagine it won't be easy!

If you have to ask, then you don't want it bad enough.

Just look around and see how many ex-porsche guys are now fcar owners here....then you'll know which way to go.

As a current owner of an 86 Carrera and a brand new 07 Carrera S, I think this statement is stupid and displays a level of ignorance I didn't think was possible on this board. It's a good thing most others aren't like you, or I would never consider joining your elitist club.

    Interesting.....

Take it easy guys, I think vvassallo was just joking around. Being a Porsche guy I was not offended at all. I think this is what happens when you forget to insert a :p symbol when you make a joking post...

Get what your heart wants, not what's logical. Porsches is not practical as it is, the Ferrari is 10 times worst.

The 89 Speedster is a beautiful car, I do believe it will bring in more value than a 348 down the road. As it is now, it is in the same price level as a 95 F355.

But be very aware of a fact that somehow Ferraris have a strange way of driving your head crazy even just from looking at the car, in some ways like a demon possession. For example I am completely possessed right now..... even the MBA business degree wife is getting effected a well.

Recently a deal fell through for me on a 97 355GTB and immediately after I showed her a picture of a 99 GTS for $90k+ and she just said go ahead and buy that one then..... simply because it had the two tone (black/red) carbon seats.... Prior to seeing what a F355 is when she heard me tell her that I want to buy a Ferrari her replies were "you stupid.. you don't need one.... no way...." Now she wants me to buy one that's $20k over our budget just from looking at some pictures on the internet. Women!!!

There is no right answer, you just need to do what would make you happy regardless at how illogical the decision maybe.

If you're asking which car is "better in the long-term", maybe the '89 Porsche Speedster has some investment value? (I doubt it, because it's modern mass-produced car, but I'm not a 911 expert.) I don't think a 348 is a great investment Ferrari, especially if it already has 38,000km showing.

That said, there are investments and then there are cars. There is something to Ferrari ownership that I didn't get with my Porsche 993 (now sold, bought a 328). They genuinely sound different, are more engaging to drive, attract far more attention, have an aura of celebrity to them and all the rest of it. They also have one of the most terrifying parts price lists you'll find...

If the car is going be a plaything, so that you won't be disappointed if it's laid up a few days for servicing, then go ahead.

But I think you should consider more carefully which one to buy, before running pics by the wife.
