Solo S2 Cordless was thinking of this one as I really like the cordless feature, and any advice I have never used one.

    Thanks,

I've been using a Solo for many years and it has saved my ass many times and saved me mucho dollars. Not as good as the V1 perhaps but much smaller and good enough for me. Easy portability between the daily driver and the Tr is nice too. Sensitivity decreases with aging batteries so keep'em fresh.

I don`t go anywhere with out mine. Saved me too many times to count. I think the speed limits are way to low on most roads, so I`m always speeding.

I have used V1's for 10 years and a couple of years ago I bought a solo for use in other cars. I promptly got a ticket in my p/u when I did not get early enough warning, so I tried the solo next to the V1 for a while. The V1 was vastly superior at giving earlier warnings in the real world. I sold the solo in a garage sale.

Has anyone seen any comparisons between the very expensive "built-in concealed" K-40 system and the V1 or the Solo portable units?

I have all 3 ! Solo, small, less sensitive than either K40 or V1; K40 is over sensitive to X band and other K40s which will make it chirp like a bird. Software upgrades renders the 3 or more year olds largely less useful than almost any other but its always ON so there is no excuse for not heeding a warning. I agree with the resto of this forum that the V1 is the best but its form factor in standrad guise is obvious, in your face and prone to theft. More so than the Solo which without wires is much easier to put away it seems. My choice would be a custom remote install V1.

Don't do it! Although the Solo is cordless which is a nice feature, the Volume level is 'piss poor' with the radio on or windows open and the distance reception is nowhere near as good as a Escort 9500 series or the Valentine 1. Go with the V1 or the 9500 and you'll be in good shape! Mags

My experience with Solo detectors mirrors that of Prova85...I've been a satisfied user of Solo detectors for many years.

As some other people have said, go for the V1. I got one a few months ago and had it hardwired into my car and I swear by it, as it has saved me numerous times. IMO it is worth the extra money over other detectors as the difference in price runs about what one ticket would cost along with other problems that would cause.

Any one tried the beltronics STI driver (suposed to undetectable to cops detectors) or the Beltronics RX 65. I am in Australia Perth ,they are legal here but not in any other states so dont know how long till same in perth, I was thinking of a V1 but some say the new Beltronics are just as good.......Any opinions????? V1 or Escort 8500 x50. Just hide the wires...I use a visor organizer and tuck it in there.

Without a detector you never know your being scanned. Up here they drive everything, even stealth SUV's. And they like instant ON! Detectorless is like running blind, which I have been doing for a while now since my 8500 got stolen.

Also, you never know your going to get busted. Many times I had the dtector go off and seen the law, they just kept going, even though I was maybe 10 over. Ooops, oh looky there, he has a cell phone up to his ear....the single greatest thing they ever handed a cop, keeps em tied up.

Its funny though, I dont drive like a need a detector now that its gone, and if I do speed, its only a short burst here or there, and a detector wouldnt help me.

And if they laser you, your just plain had no matter what you have onboard. because when your detector lights up "LASER" "LASER" "LASER", the bear already has your "SPEED" "SPEED" "SPEED". Or at least someones. Laser really should be outlawed, to prone to misalignment/targeting errors IMHO.

Driving the open roads in Idaho, I find that the only way a radar detector will help is if somebody is ahead of me. Let them speed and stay a little ways behind and the cop will light the car in front up and I will have time to slow down. This works for me every time. If I am the "lead" car, it's too late once the detector goes off.

I enjoyed my V1 till some thought they'd get more use out of it and swiped it out of my car while parked to go fetch an ice cream cone. I'm now shopping to replace and find myself leaning toward the S2 just so I can swap in between cars or take it with me when traveling for rental car application. These reasonings lead me toward the S2. Through my research I do understand the hardwired units having more power give you nearly twice the distance in detection but how do I weigh these options out. A mile of protection versus 2 miles? I'm not doing 200 mph! Lend your thoughts to this...

don't know vs the V1, but the portable model of the Escort although more expensive and seems like a good idea, is not as good as the hard-wired models. That is what the factory people/techs tell you over the phone!!!!!

So, have only the hard wired ones: I have four detectors, one for each car. They have saved my butt many times, and are well worth the price by far.

I was only caught once last summer when CHP cut across the median divide, like I was some sort of terrorist, and pulled me over [going 80 in a 65!!! biiiiggggg deal--on-line traffic school and good for awhile ] cocky sort of guy too: "is there any reason we are going 80mph?" stupid question, no right anwser..

anyway the 456 has an under the grill system too, but HATE IT!...chirps like some song bird all the time, and give false reports where Escort doesn't. going to replace with hard wired Escort becuase the LASERs are getting very good at the front grill

I have both K-40 and V-1 in my 575. Compared to the V-1, the K-40 is useless and is turned off. My K-40 is five years old and a newer model may be better.

K-40 sucks and is only good for finding the nearest gragae door opener or microwave... Escort products are good (I have had 8500 but not solo). I have heard nothing but good things about V1 but haven't had one yet. This thread is prompting me to sign on and buy one now...

I have a one year old K-40 Blue Tooth Model with Laser Defuser and the thing is just great. I also have a window mounted Beltronics RX-65 in my other car that is adequate but not as sensitive as the K-40.

I recommend both! Cant speak for other models.

I have a new version of the V1 and its great....I also have Passport 9500 installed in the 360 and its pretty good also...I prefer the V1 I just wish they would do a real installed version...not the remote deal.
