First of all, my apologies for using this thread for personal matters. I placed same thread under the Northwest, not realizing that there was a Canada section. My son, Michael, graduated from high school and is planning to attend University of Victoria in Vancouver. The Canadian govt. requires us to locate a "custodian" (guardian) for and minor (under 19). This custodian must be a Canadian residing in BC. Unfortunately, I do not know anyone personally to ask. Is there any brave soul out here willing to act as my son's custodian ? (He'll be turning 19 in Nov. so it is only for three months). It requires filling out a simple form and have it notarized at a local notary public office. If anyone is willing to help us, I would be much obliged and indebted. Please PM me or contact me at [email protected] Forgot to mention that we live in Yokohama, Japan. Thank you in advance. My apologies again for using this space for personal matters. w/ regards Jimmy K. Chen Shiba DDS 127-17 Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan 231-0862
My understanding is that in the event of unfortunate circumstance on your end, your child would become legal and financial responsibility of the overseas custodian. That's quite a bit to ask from people on a car forum you've never met. Some could even consider the request bizarre. Would a better strategy not be to spend a week where your child is attending post-secondary, make some contacts, and request such things in a more personal setting?

Jimmy - have you checked w the admissions office at UVic? There are literally hundreds of foreign students attending UVic who didn't have local contacts prior to arriving (not to mention all the other BC schools!) and each school has a special office/liaison for these matters. Recommend you reach out to them first and your friends-of-friends or business contacts before approaching total strangers. Quite frankly, only a complete idiot would sign up to be a sponsor/guarantor w/out having a remote connection to your son . Don't mean to be hostile, but its just a very odd request. Best of luck nonetheless.

No offence intended, but can I honestly ask WTF is up w SLRs? My 2 cents - looks no better than an slk55 - driven by ppl who know nothing about cars - plastic gimmicky interior - 2nd rate transmission - overpriced for what you get (vs LP640, CGT, everything) Gordon Murray bailed on the SLR project for a reason. This aint no enthusiasts car.... nowhere close. I'd be embarassed to be seen in it. PS - thanks for earlier comments on the pic I posted. Sorry no high-res as my e-mail system can't stomach it
The SLR is a crazy car.. It will make short work of our cars.. I have a E55 as a daily drive, same base engine and the SLR only takes it to the next level.. I will say that the steering is a bite mute for what I would consider a "super car" but still what a package.. I would say drive one first then re-visit the comments made, you may change your mind on a few..
woah!!! Great pics Salar!!! I do think the SLR is a great car. I dont think it is quite supercar status though. Just a fancy design with fancy doors and a big AMG engine. Still very nice, but I dont think its in the same class as the LP640 or Carrera GT.
I just had another thought. I see you are a dentist. I'm guessing your kid is enrolling in undergraduate studies. Perhaps you could contact the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. They might be able to offer you some advice, and be more sympathetic (if not empathetic) to your cause. Good luck. PS: I like sashimi. See, we Canadians can be bizarre too
Probably not. I bet it is a wicked fun car to drive...but I would still take a LP640, Carerra GT or F430 over it.
Your responses are totally understandable and natural. Thank you nevertheless. Just to add a bit, needless to say, my child's welfare is my problem no matter how you cut it. Aside from this ridiculous red tape which doesn't mean a thing, I have to show the bureaucrats in other forms for the mentioned responsibilites (which is of course normal). I presume the intent of yet another red tape is that in case of emergencies, someone nearby can be contacted. What more can I say. At least few of you were kind enough to take a moment to respond ? Thanks for that. Jimmy
