Thanks Guys, I was impressed. My daughter has been to three AMLS races at two MotoGPs. She is a huge Ferrari fan but still does not like F1 much, but she knows the key players :)

Cool that you were at the race!

Was the sound much different between the MM and the F-cars when they came screaming by?

But this is assuming that Schumi can do something that Massa and Kimi can't. As I see it, Schumi helped the Scuderia into second place the past few years. It looks like they are doing just fine holding onto second place without him. Unless you are thinking that Schumi could give better feedback, or make the car lap faster than Kimi or Massa, but that did not help the last two years why would I assume it would help this year?

    Good point!

Basically the last Ferrari era has come to an end!, as I have always said designers/engineers have a thing for a particular concept and the MS team got that right for a few years. It will never last and it is hard for the same team to think differently, especially after you have been chasing a theoretical concept so hard for so long.

Yes we have had a designer/engineer change but he either does not have the goods, or is time is yet to come.

Time to poach a McLaren designer ... or just blatently copy their car as Ferrari copied the Williams in 97 (I think).

Again we come to the conclusion that the car is 95% of F1 ... I only rate MS for the pre-championship years, after that anybody could have won in that car with a weak team mate.

Pete great post, but MS did work with Byrne in getting a great package, he had a very strong personality within the team, what I feel might be lacking now. The way they came back last year is a testament to MS.

Just looking through the F1.com stats and this is quite impressive for a rookie...

    Australian 3rd
    Malaysian 2nd
    Bahrain 2nd
    Spanish 2nd
    Monaco 2nd
    Canadian 1st
    United States 1st

If he was a company I would want to buy stock. :)

Is that your idea of respawning a team? That´s the kind of thing that does Toyota when they are desperate and it doesn´t work (remember Mike Gascoyne and the Ferrari F2002 clone).

Well, remember me that I don´t hire you as team manager if I own one someday! ;-)

:D, worked pretty well for Ross Brawn/Roy Bryne when they copied the 96 Williams for the 97 Ferrari ... only difference was it was red ;)

Note I am not 100% sure of the year when Ferrari just gave up and copied, but they definitely did it and it was the start of the upward streak.

Good excuse, but not enough. The ´97 Ferrari F310B, the one you say that was a copy of the Williams, was designed by John Barnard, and was not such a great car. In fact, the car only started to work later in the season when the new technical team (Ross Brawn and co.) developed it. When Ferrari hired Ross Brawn and co. they just didn´t hire the Benetton designers: remember that in those times they didn´t have an own design team, so what they really did was build an entire new team; they needed years for that. The car they used next year, in 1998, the F300, had nothing in common with the F310B (the Williams clone) and that was really the beginning of the winning streak, as the F1-2000, the car that won the championship a few years later, was an evolution of the F300.

Besides that, Ferrari´s Chief of Aerodinamics already came from McLaren. And do you remember the Williams desgined by that aero gurú woman from Ferrari, not good, not good at all! And look at Adrian Newey´s Red Bulls!

I think that is not so easy as hire someone and copy this or that. Although nobody at Ferrari is going to admit it, this was a transitional year for the team, with Jean Todt semi-retired, new drivers, and a new technical structure. Probably next year they´ll have a new boss (Ross Brawn or whoever) and they´ll need a few years (maybe 21) to keep all things together.

Talk the trash you wanna talk, but the Red Bull is a regular Q3 qualifier. It has the speed. I'm sure Honda or Toyota would love to have Red Bull speed right now.

well, it'll be interesting to see whats gonna happen the next race. the engines suffered alot this race, and Ferrari as well as Macs will continue to use the same engine for France, where it'll be very hot.

it's gonna be a boring race i think at France, not much of overtaking, etc. pretty much the normal stuff. i do hope i'm wrong tho.

right now, i think there'll be, or has to be a crisis meeting in Maranello. the team needs to regroup and stay focused. the need to develop the car and focus on taking the fight to Mclaren.

if i were Ferrari, i won't really worry about BMW. the Beemers are only dialed up more less for practice and quali pace. yet, they just don't seem to have the finishing touches for raceday.

so yea..i'm just hoping for the best for Ferrari.

Yes, I have to admit that I wasn´t fair with Red Bull, they are not bad at all. But they are not so great too, remember that their best season so far was the first one, with a car designed by an "anonimous" man from Jaguar, not by a "superstar" like Newey.

I was sitting on the hill by Turn 11 and I could hear the Ferrari traction control in that corner, the car 'blip-blip-blip' all the way around, as opposed to the McLarens which sounded like they were accelerating much sooner. That speed out of the slow corner is what makes for speed in the straight. That is why the Ferrari wasn't showing the speed in the straight. It wasn't coming off the corners fast enough. I don't think its handling in the curves that is the problem as much as speed coming out. my 2c.

    Absoluely.

We must all remember this sport is very cyclical.

I am not ready to giive up on the team. Nor would I ever want to see Alonso driving a Ferrari F1 car. The current chassis sucks, I have saying there is a grip problem for weeks. I know that SF is working on the problem as we speak.

France will be the true test of the second half of the season.

I am not home from the USGP yet, so i am on a borrowed computer. Sorry if this came up earlier in this thread.

Was there any mention on the broadcast of the blue flag that somehow got sucked away from the front straight official? Cars ran over it, but ultimately one car sucked it along. Was there any damage?
