[SG] Any Good 3M Film Installers?

    I've been looking around at a few high-end cars and I've been surprised to see that most of them don't have any sort of 3M bumper / hood / side mirror protection. This is particularly surprising given how many are used regularly (some as daily drivers). As a result, many of these cars have specks in the paint given frequency of use and how low to the ground they are.

    In the US, with metallic paints increasingly being offered (difficult to touch up), it is a no brainer to get the film installed either at the dealer or right after...and most of these cars are garage queens! It's generally a low cost option (relative to the cost of a respray), offers peace of mind, and can be replaced easily. Additionally, the quality of 3M film has increased substantially from earlier generations. The latest generation offers significant resistance to stone chips but is paper thin, offering very little in the way of orange peel, and being virtually invisible to the eye.

    I'd like to install a 3M protective film once I buy (whatever I buy). Any recommendations on good installers in SG?

    Actually the guy that install it is rite above Eurosports. Company is called K-guard.

    I'm using another guy @ Defu industrial area. Uses 3M as well, hand-cut, one day job in an aircon warehouse. $1.5k for complete nose, A pillars, wing mirrors, side skirts & wheel arches. I also got customed 3M mats from them.

    Kguard costs at least double for the same work but they're PC-cut so they have to pay royalty & they give no nonsense replacement & "upgrades" @ special prices.

    I don't know about the yellowing thing but if your car's not black or white they're quite good & saves you from waxing it :D

    Worth it if your car has metallic paint otherwise a paint touch up is not so expensive here.

    Jon, I did my spyder at Kguard for $1.6k excluding side skirts and A pillars. That is the standard price.

    Hi Phil but is it the full bonnet? Kguard has two prices, 24" & 48" & then the lower bumper & front quarter panels. I was quoted more than S$3K for the complete nose (48") alone exlcuding wing mirrors & not sure if that includes the quarter panels. It's not nice to have the 24" as it covers only half, making a breakline on the bonnet & stone chips can go up to windscreen. I think they give discount for repeat clients?

    The shop I used was alright, not top notch job but no bubbles & only some wrinkles @ certain corners where they end. Porsche might be a little tricky having a more organic shape.

    To be frank, if you don't track the car much & keep a distance when doing convoys, your car is quite free from chips. Especially if it's just local drive.

    I like my baby all natural... Never had any 3M film on any of my cars. When it gets chipped... I send it to Ah Long to touch up/respray. Never had a problem with color matching... never had a problem selling the car later too.

    Yes it is for the full bonnet and full fenders. I believed $1.6k is standard for all Gs, not only for repeat customers.

    Not really an issue on colour matching, but more like free from stonechips anytime you look at it. Yes, you can send to touch up, but still have to live with it until the next touch up.

    U saying that u never get chips on the 3M film? Cannot be rite? The film will have indents and chips but not on the body rite? So unless you change the film after heavy trailing...it will still not be smooth and flawless.
    Or am I missing something?

    Lung, if a fist size rock gets hurtled at you, nothing you put on your car. But the film protects you for 99% of the other (pin-sized) rock chips that do impact the car. Even if you're not a tracker and drive the car only in Singapore, these cars lie so low to the ground that random rock chips are inevitable. This is where 3M / K-Guard shines. I've put this protection on all my cars as of late - there is a day-and-night difference versus those cars and my uncovered 355, which looked like it had been sprayed with a rock pellet machine gun after a summer of driving. Conversely, I put it on my Gallardo, and the bumper / bonnet looked factory-new after a year of hard New York City driving.

    I'm glad you haven't had any trouble selling your cars. On a personal note, the cars that I've seen have had lots of specks, and it's a turn-off for me. That's also partially why I'm considering respraying the 997.

    Give it a go on your next ride. Seriously.

    Aiyah... ok ok I am open to the idea...BUT!
    I have owned my car for the last 5mths... I checked the bonnet and the bumper... I don't see any chips or specks that warrant even a touch up.
    So how?

    to film or not to film?... thats the big question. me thinking of doing it cos i like to drive up north. but my car is black and the film makes my bonnet look very dull and unglossy. :(

    Hmmm tough call, but after a hot drive you'll see a lot of tiny holes all over then you'll want to book a session for painting again....another S$1.5K. I would do it while the paint is fresh, the sticker is not that dull.

    My current car has lots of chips all over that I may do a half car re-spray then I'll do the sticker as well. This is at least a 2yrs keeper so I'm going to pamper it. While the car is out of action, I'll get the workshop to strip some parts to do CF coating & coloured calipers as well.

    that may be true ... no clue bro ... but i hv it on wing mirrors & all ... & the wing mirrors r CF ...

    i heard actually the opposite - that it shows more on pastel coloured cars ...

    Don't do the bra thing. It flaps noisily @ high speed & when rocks or tiny debris get stuck in between.....you're like wearing a piece of sandpaper on the nose!

    The sticker do show up on glossy black cars & shine drops about 50%. So it really depends if yours is a showcar or a driver's car.
