I went to Peterson's Automotive Museum after the Rodeo drive car show today. Since they were having a 'Ferrari Exhibit' I thought I would see what it looked like. So now I know why the 355 is so awesome, it has variable valve timing !!!! LOL hahahahahaaaa :p!!!! Beats me where they got that info from ???? ;)

Below is exhibit 'A', along with other pics from today :):

The F40 seems to have a 3rd brake light. Is this standard kit on US F40's or an add on?

    Thanks

Oz I'm surprised. I thought this was common knowledge. It is not really variable valve-timing....it is variable cam-timing. YES YES YES......ALL 355's, and even all of the 348's have VARIABLE cam-timing.....from the factory.

Interesting oservation, if it's an 'add on' they did a great job :)!

    ;)

    :D

Yeah I was thinking of that long after my post. Though it should be called "staggered" or "varied" valve timing ;)....

Your welcome mate!! Now you know what you have to look forward to in september :)!!

Oz, I know it's monday, and with all the partying over the weekend coupled with the 24hrs of LM and the F1 at Indy, all our thoughts are cloudy. But with all you know about the 355 engine, and remembering pugzits' post on variable cam timing, please rethink what I said. Was the statement I made, true/factual, or was it ironic? This is a real brain exercise here...lol

I was there, but REALLY early in the morning, watching all the cars show up. The guys that brought the Veyron were WAY cool. Talked with them for quite a while. I even invited them to bring it to Euro Sunday at the VCR. They said they might, but it depended on if it got sold or not.

Yes! .................... all "cams" are "variable" in every motor. But I thought it was understood the actual term "variable", when used in an engine description...... means "variable" when the motor is running not when one is building it ;). Thanks for the monday morning teazer.... :).

Oz, you are waaaay to cool. I wish you were my next door neighbor....fun times would abound, to say the least.

Cam timing, on 348's and 355's, is variable with the engine RUNNING.

It is almost nil and unpreceptable when new, but with age it becomes more pronounced and apparent. It reaches its' maximum variation and is unmistakeable the instant before that strectched/worn cam belt finally breaks.....lol

Sure, just pull the dowels out of the cam cogs. That'll get you your "variable" timing with the engine running. Don't know how long it will run though?

    LOL! :D :p

I think the cam lobes are different on the 355..... the center one has more duration if recall correctly ??
