To the owners; What is most involving of F40 vs. Challenge Stradale?

    You see, my country has high car taxes - after toying with the calculator all day I have come to that a 1989 F40 would only be a fraction more expensive than a new F430 Coupé. I can see myself reaching the dream of a new V8 Ferrari in 7-8 years from now (it can't be done earlier because of very, very strict insurance policy which requires many years of driving with no accidents and a certain age of driver), but at the same time it's fun to realize that you can either have a brand new F430 or the legend itself. My mind says a F430 would just give me enough thrills to want to grab the keys again and again, but my petrol drunk heart screams and lusts for a black F40 (see attached picture please).

    I'm a diehard driving experience/ grin-on-my-face-after-a-ride type of enthusiast who don't car too much for luxury as long as the fun factor is high.

    I was also thinking of the Challenge Stradale. That will put me back 1/2 the money (I hate that word) needed for a F40.
    So this leaves me to the question of which car would be more involving to drive or which car would leave the biggest grin on a driver. I can imagine the Challenge Stradale being more reliable - perhaps with better sound in somebody's opinion, but at the same time it's irrelevant because I can't imagine a F40 owner taking his car on a continental roadtrip!

    Please share your thoughts and experiences. I know some of you have both (CS & F40) so I would be greatly thankfull for any input.

    Unfortunately not an owner, but since I suspect its not going to be your only car I think the answer is obvious ;) If you can, go for it. And black too... simply wow.

    The F40 is still a stunner, and as you said, a legend! The choice is yours, but you will not be disappointed either way!

    F40 hands down.

    I love both. The Stradale is an amazing beast. It is so savage and yet you can toy with it around town. An F40 can also be used in this fashion but it will require more effort from you.

    With 2-3 F40's here it's a little bit hard to arrange a test drive, but of course if I get the oppurtunity I would do it. :) Do you have experience with the F40?

    I would definatly say the F40, but you're going to have a hard time finding a black one. Those are rare and amazingly beautiful. Good luck!

    It would eventually be repainted in a preferred black colour.

    Is that photoshop?

    I know some F40s have been converted after they left the factory but he colour finish doesnt seem quite right on this.
    Almost too matty in the finish?
    I hope i'm wrong

    Found these pictures on another forum. Got 2-3 more of the same car so I don't think they are photoshopped. Black looks very mean on F40.

    I am going to work with the word "involving", because it is what I like about my current car (512TR). The F40 has no power anything, does it even have antilock brakes (I am pretty sure no). The Stradale is a fabulous car that I lust after. But the F40 will ALWAYS be the more involving car to drive, because you have to do it all (clutch, shift, traction control, braking). The Stradale will do many of these things for you.

    I've seen a black one, I've seen the grey one, i've seen a yellow one, all in the flesh, I think this a photoshop. Just my personal opinion/hunch. Doesnt look quite right.

    This of course has as no bearing on this thread though. :rolleyes:

    Buy an F40 :D

    Yea, but the engine is apples to oranges......

    The F40 is a heavy maintenance item with all the trubo plumbing etc, and a much higher stressed engine, compared to the CS which is a street car after all.....

    One will 'involve' your wallet a LOT more often, guess which one!!!!!?

    F40 is a monster, baby, be ready to feed it!

    Very sensible comment. IMO i would take the F40. It's a true legend.
    You're right, i can't imagine a F40 on a longer trip too. But i wouldn't ever drive it too many times, and take it to long distances.

    Not sure I agree with this. F40 engine is easily accessible. No expensive computer components to trash. Damage the body work... it'll get expensive quick though!

    I've had my car nearly 2 years, and have only had 1 unscheduled issue (cam position sensor went bad) few hundred $$$ to diagnose and fix. That's it. Had a fresh major with belts during my purchase process. Just fluids since. Car has been bullet proof (knockng wood!)

    Rock on, good to hear!

    Roland drives his all over so maybe my engine observations were unwarranted..

    The only problems Big George Foreman ever had was from running on stale gas......sat too long...like several years!

    With involving I perhaps meant "fun". Which car you would rather drive. Perhaps I didn't use the words correctly in the first post? If so I apologize, english is not my first, second or third language.

    I have to say, this is the best motivation I have had in a long time to do it better at work and business. I really, really wish to have a supercar before I leave this world.

    Oh yea, no question, shifting thru an F40 as the turbos kick in.....vs. flipping paddles in a new 430C...........

    You'd better go find $450K......LOL!
