I am having the front valance of my BBi re-painted, due to stone chips. The paint shop is not familiar with Ferraris, so I am giving him the paint code number.

The paint code sticker reads: FER 300, however, it seems that part of the sticker is missing, indicating a possible extension of that number.

A search reveals a possibility of the following three:
    FER 300
    FER 300/6
    FER 300/9

It would seem that the most likely one for the Boxer would be FER 300/6, but I would like to be sure.

BTW: My 89 328 paint sticker reads: FER 300/9.

It would seems that the /9, /6 would represent a slight shade difference, in basically the same color: FER 300.

So should I tell the painter to use FER 300/6?

    Thanks.

It seems that from Murph's Glasurit link, the proper color code number would be FER 300/6.........there not being a FER 300 for the year 1983, according to the link. Yet Newman's picture, as others clearly show FER 300. It seems we can eliminate FER 300/9.

My conclusion is that it is either FER 300 or FER 300/6. I will see what the body paint guy comes up when he finishes.

I feel the discrepency is due to years of "reproduction" labels being made, with some incorrect numbers, that have been accepted as the "real" ones. Over the years, this passes down to the cars, with owners believing the "incorrect" number, whatever it is. This is just my theory.

    Thanks for the help.

I had some touch up mixed up for me today at work and I asked about the paint codes. He explained to me that they were the same even with the different suffix. The painter said the suffix could be tied to the quantity ordered or the supplier, etc....His choices were 300/6 and 300/9 only, he chose 300/6 for me mumbling something about the 9 I didnt understand. Hope that helps.

STOP THE PRESSES! I went back and spoke with the painter again and we went through the formulas for the different reds under the 300's. He found a straight 300 code and checked the formula. It has six colours combinded to make the red and the 300/9 has 4 colours. So, they are different and Im having him mix up a small batch of straight 300 for my touch ups.
