Let's hope there is a mental switch if you know what I mean.

Many/most dont make the transition well from the lower formulas.
JV got complacent after he listened to his own PR. As LH too has the gift, this is what he needs to watch out for.

Thank God. MS was a dirty driver and not nearly as great as many people believe him to be. If anything, Lewis may be even better.

+1,000! For all of the arguments about Jacques Villenueve, I only ask if the 2X defending world champion was his teammate? This kid is the real deal. Only time will tell if he goes down among history's greats, but he is UNDOUBTEDLY a special talent!

I'm still waiting to see the rookie race in the rain.

So far, he's been the complete package.

But the praise for Hamilton and Kimi bashing haven't dealt with the first wet race, yet. Will Alonso and Kimi be taking back seats in the rain?

I know what you mean and that is certainly part of the problem.

Apart from that he does have a switch. It was in the ON position in 03 and 05 and sometimes in between. It just kills me to see this huge talent with some of the greatest car control and raw speed being wasted. And he has only himself to blame. It is as if Picasso decided to only do paint by numbers for the rest of his life.

I do not think many F1 fans like Alonso."You wouldnt have said that if you were sat in the stands in barcelona "

BTW: JV's team mate was Damon Hill who became WDC because of JV that year (ie. JV was taking points of MS) ... JV was very close to taking the WDC himself that year.

His first victory came at the Nürburgring where he held off two time world champion (subsequently seven time world champion) Michael Schumacher in his Ferrari ... LH will never be able to do that!!!, unless Alonso goes on to bag many more.

I have 50 plus pics from this spot Saturday morning. Review them over and over. LH just launched out of the corner. Alonso and Heidfeld just a little air on the left front. Some inside off the grass or wide the long way. Everyone always a little different path. LH almost always the same path and with more exit speed.

    Nice find.
Their cars may be setup differently stiffer/softer allowing the wheel to lift more or less.
In the end what matters is overall lap times and LH and FA were pretty close.
This is where data aquisition pays off in spades. Proper analysis can find the "best" line for an individual or series of corners, Added up that will give the best overall track line.
I like LH's driving style, its more all out with perhaps a little less finesse, which may come later.

I think you misunderstood me. I did not mean that LH won't win multiple WDC's but instead he will not be able to race against MS, because ofcourse MS has retired :).

I cannot believe at this level that atleast the top 10 F1 drivers do not take exactly the same line through that corner everytime (unless lapping, etc.).

We are not talking about amatures. Heck even I would be within mm's every lap in my club racing days.

I think my point is that JV didn't have to drive against the driver who beat a legend on his own team (Alonso). Damon Hill may have been given the championship, but Hamilton is leading the championship against arguably the best driver in F1.

Nice photo, but what are you trying to show here?

If it is the different line to LH then that line might suit that chassis better than the Macs. We need to see multiple shots of the same driver through the same corner to prove if their lines altered like amatures ... and I would be very surprised if they did.

Read the first one, and yep easy to be fast and neat in a very well sorted car. Hill used to be one of the neatest too.

Again we will learn nothing about his driving style until he makes a setup balls up or McLaren make a mistake and he has to over drive the car.

How would we know if he makes a setup "balls up"? Whatever that means lol, and how would we know if Mclaren makes a mistake? This sounds like the kind of grey area where fans can only speculate. I would simply look at how he charges from the back of the grid. I don't think his wet weather skill needs to be doubted yet though, check this vid out.

You'd be amazed to see how different their lines are and also how different their lines are compared to themselves. Like Yzee I've stood in that corner and took pics for many years.

I watched VT footage of jenson and rubens going round some corner cant remember which ..and take a completely different line the end result pretty much the same exit speed it was highlighting the fact how jenson drives more smoothly and hence saves on car wear.. hamilton ran very close to the wall at indy thats his style ..and so on
